Pitt Volleyball

Pitt women's volleyball led 2 sets to 1 against #12 ranked UNC but ultimately lost 3-2 in 5 sets, and are now 13-2 on the season. Tough loss for the lady panthers and you could tell Coach Dan Fisher took the loss hard. However, Dan Fisher has done a really good job improving this team. His new affiliation with the Pittsburgh 3 Rivers Club program should help with recruiting in western PA.

Over 600 were at the match tonight with a great atmosphere and I definitely recommend checking out a game, especially for those of you that have younger daughters that may be interested. Volleyball is a fun sport to play and watch. The team plays Notre Dame next Friday and then is on the road til 10/24 when they play 5th ranked Florida State.

Yeah - been to the Blue/Gold & the Colorado match. They are noticably better than they were last year, which is what you hope for having as many returning players as he had. They'll easily outperform that #9 pre-season conference ranking and their determination to make the NCAAT is very clear. I really like this team a lot.

Two wins over 2013 NCAAT squads already. Top 5 nationally in Team Kills/Set & Team Assists/Set. They were leading the ACC in three categories and second in three others before UNC.

Fisher is a gem. A nice respite from the otherwise difficult Fall Sports lineup.

Good stuff. Thx for posting. Sounds like they found a good coach. Hopefully he continues and we find a way to keep him.

Both soccer programs seem to have a strong involvement with the top soccer club in the area. As long as they get commitments from their top players instead of reaches from other areas, the soccer teams should uptick as well. That said, ACC soccer is brutally tough...and we are about to see it as the women head into the tough part of their schedule.

I admit I don't follow college volleyball closely, but I'm surprised PITT is still getting no national attention when it comes to rankings (currently ranked #71) when they are 15-2 and had now #7 UNC on the ropes? I guess with their other loss coming to #34 Colorado, perhaps those are the only two good teams they've played. Still, the way they've steamrolled most of their competition, it would seem they would have moved up the rankings more than that, at least top 50.

Forgot I posted this thread. Nice discussion. Just saw the lady panthers received votes in the most recent AVCA Poll. 4 points in the other receiving votes category which places them at #35.

Big matchup this Friday against Florida State. Hopefully a nice turnout with the mens and women's basketball "madness" event following the volleyball match.
