Pitt vs Georgetown per Goodman

Don't know what being even with Georgetown means.

Not that it means much; but, Sagarin's computer had Georgetown finish last season at #25. Anyone know if Georgetown is expected to be better or worse than they were last year?

KenPom has them at preseason #27 -- had them #24 in the country at season's end.

Has Pitt #30, FWIW.

I would imagine G'town starts off in the Top 20-25 range. Smith-Rivera is pretty relevant nationally and people seem bullish on Isaac Copeland. Plus they brought in their typically solid freshman class to supplement things.

CBS Sports has Georgetown #28. Pre-season, FWIW.

We generally match up well against GT teams. Wondering how Gonzaga's style matches this Pitt team. I remember the Zags were big inside last year and replacing their back court may mean we have our 3P shooters out there early. Lost to Duke in NCAA. Past Pitt teams always had a big run after half and took control but that has been lacking in the past several years.

Love to hear more of the "secret" game highlights. Should be a fun team to watch develop into a contender once ACC begins.

Gonzaga apparently struggled with Baylor and lost in their secret scrimmage. Gonzaga has elite bigs, but they replace their PG, SG and SF all who were really, really good last year.

Baylor #10 and Gonzaga #8 in KenPom's preseason, FWIW.

Sabonis, Karnowski, and Wiltjer will definitely test Pitt early. Gary Bell, Jr one of those guys who people keep expecting to break out.

I had a tit-da-tat with a Zags fan on TOS and.... he pushed the guys that are gonna be on their perimeter this year and, by my investigation... an assists guy, a defensive stopper, and a 'team' guy.. and the players they are replacing averaged about 30 PPG last year while these guys... might only do 15.

But... their trio of inside players... Wiltjer, Sabonis and Karnowski... are the best set of inside players in the country... AND... they are all gonna be playing the same positions they played last year... while we got new guys at C and MY moving to PF and JA moving to SF.

So, despite their loss of their entire starting perimeter IMO they have the edge in returning players doing the same thing as they did last year.

If we can shut down... or at least slow down... their inside players and play reasonable D on the perimeter we should win this game.

Easier said than done.

I believe Bell graduated... as did the rest of their starting perimeter. He is not listed on their roster on their official site.

You are probably right. I looked on ESPN since they're right on my homepage (Pitt's one of my favorite/tracked teams, obviously). They have Gary Bell Jr. included on the roster (as a senior), but Damontas Sabonis omitted so that could be the mistake.

Yeah... that is the first place I looked also and saw that about Sabonis and was doing searches on him and Bell... finally did a search on Gonzaga Basketball and got their home page.

Amazing how far off ESPN is on this one. On ours, it is accurate EXCEPT they still have APN listed.

I am sure stats were kept. But, I doubt they are publicly releasable since you cannot even publicly announce who the scrimmage opponent was.

That doesn't mean someone might not leak the stats to the blogosphere, of course. I expect Goodman is sitting on the details on a promise to the whoever leaked him info so he won't cause either team to run afoul of the NCAA.

I sure hope that the NCAA has a sufficient staff to be able to make sure that any leaks of stats from scrimmages are dealt with appropriately. I think that double secret probation would be in order.

I have a real good feeling about this team. We play our best when expectations are low. I just have a feeling this is a 12-6, 13-5 team that sneaks up on everybody.

Our board has no insiders. Not even a nibble on what happened.
Pitt has become very secretive on almost everything about the basketball program. Certain assistants used to talk a lot and often intentionally leaked information. Occasionally there may have been ulterior (internal politics) motivation behind some of the leaks. There were items quietly provided to people on the board to be unofficially distributed.

Those assistants are no longer here. After the Jeter transfer was discussed prematurely, costing him a year at a juco and us his services for a year, the information flow was clamped shut.

I don't necessarily like this but it is what it is. The flow of information is tightly controlled.

Matt has provided a little bit of inside information on the Center Court Board, and I'm sure more will slip out in the next few days.

There's no doubt that Pitt is quite secretive, but from what I understand, the NCAA really REQUIRES that this secret scrimmage is indeed that.

I believe Goodman said schools are not allowed to publicize them in any way prior to the scrimmage, but may speak about them after the fact.

I would imagine, though, that the 2 schools probably reach an agreement before the scrimmage about how much/little will get out.

Considering neither school is releasing anything at all, I think they're probably following the usual path and keeping it all tightlipped.

And yes, as DT mentioned there's been some chatter on the Center Court board.
