Good afternoon fellow Lairsmen and women.
As some of you may already know Clemson started a grass roots fund raising campaign called IPTAY (I Pay Ten A Year) back in 1934, and currently it has blossomed into an average donation of $450 per Booster member and skyrocketed the Tigers into the most lucrative fan initiated Booster club in the entire ACC.
Toward that end a group of us have developed a #Pitt2Ten grass roots concept designed around the 9 National Titles and quest for a 10th championship, focusing on the Football Championship Fund (the one Aaron Donald recently donated $1M to). It would involve getting A LOT more Pitt fans contributing than we currently do through the Panther Club.
Pitt is currently last in the ACC in donations and things need to improve if we want to compete with the best. If we can get everyone paying a very affordable $10 a month, there is strength in numbers. And we can continually build it and have various levels once we get the program going. A group of us had a meeting Saturday with AD Heather Lyke and Deputy AD Christian Spears to pitch the idea. We like the term #Pitt2Ten a simple easy name with one goal in mind...getting Pitt that 10th National Championship.
This isn't just a Lair thing. It will incorporate ALL the various social media groups websites and current Pitt students and Alumni.
There is also a lot of support from ex players and coaches that are warm to the idea.
Think about the 30-35K diehard fans at Heinz each Sat giving $10/mo...that is $4.2M minimum!
This is also a university backed campaign and I am in contact with the powers that be in the Athletic Department and they are just as excited as we are about the potential of this program. I know some of you have pitched similar ideas in the past and I commend you for it as this has been a lot of work to this point.
As a side note, Christian also said that the Panther Club would still exist but this would enhance it, and donations to #Pitt2Ten would count towards Panther Club points. That is exciting as well.
I’ll post more when I can but I wanted to let some of my favorite fellow Pitt fans in on the excitement. I’d welcome your thoughts either in this thread or as a DM.
PS Special thanks to Mr. Chris Peak for giving me permission to post this.
Now and forever H2P!
Zeke
