Pretty much the same, except, Mathews was the listed starter last week, now he is third string. Dane Jackson is also listed as the co-starter, which is great, since I do think he is our best cover guy.

Also, Mack and Butler-Jenkins flank Arujo-Lopes at receiver, making the first hyphenated duo of WR starting for us in Pitt history. With Shocky as second teamer, that makes three... thinking Smith and Mathews need to 'make a name for themselves' to help out that cause.

Good not to have a QB controversy huh?

I am hoping for a starting 3 of Arujo-Lopes, Butler-Jenkins, and Jacque-Louis.

3 receivers
6 last names
1 goal

Any word on our injured DB's availability for PSU? Jackson listed as co-starter is a good sign but what about Campbell and Pinnock?

I have to say I have been watching and listening all spring and summer and had hoped this would be the year Matthews puts it all together. I'm not sure how he looked on Saturday but to get dropped down to 3rd string is telling. Maybe he needs to consider getting his red shirt back this year and switch positions. I feel bad saying that but with his size and athleticism we need to find a way for him to contribute.

Size yes but he is nothing special as an athlete. Probably our slowest WR. Sat he had a catch but dropped another. He doesn’t get much separation.

He is a good blocker and has heart so maybe a RS and finding another position could be in the cards...

Nothing against Matthews but to me this is a good sign that others are stepping up. It shows we have some nice young talent. Plus ppl can’t say PN is playing guys just because they are vets. Now only if we could sit another vet in Briggs. He is another one who plays hard but is limited. Hopefully Campbell is back healthy and gets lots of PT sat.

BTW does anyone know the deal with Coleman? I know he made the switch to S and played a little the last game. He did well last year in the Syracuse game and has the physical tools IMO.

As previously mentioned on these boards, maybe Matthews best future will be bulking up
and playing tight end.

I dont mind Mathews athleticism, he seems fine to me, its all the drops. I am sure he will one focused sob this weekend against the team we flipped him from, plus his buddy on that team.

The fact of the matter is he did come from a small high school playing inferior talent, so the odds of stepping right in is a little smaller, no different than the little guy, his teammate that went to UPS. Sure, occasionally there is a Tyler Boyd, but I think that is the exception, not the rule.

Well, I dont share your views on God, and also, not sure if you came out from a 25 year hiatus under a rock. If you did, sorry, and get help, but ped state is the team we are playing this Saturday. How can you be on a Pitt website and not know that?

All 3 are playing. It’s going to be a nice addition to get our 3 starters back before the game.

There is a reason PSU and other teams were not recruiting him as WR. As someone else noted, he is a good, but not real good athlete. Good enough to take generally, but probably not as a WR primarily. Good kid, and can maybe help the team in some other way. But, with below average explosion, needs to be a super precise route runner and human vacuum to help a team win win as a starter at WR.
