Another Pitt Recruit that transferred to Akron* becoming an NFL Coach, why Smart Recruits Choose Pitt Is It!
Excerpt:

Only two years after Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Getsy “knocked it out of the park” with an interview for the offensive quality control coach position, Getsy impressed enough in a short period for McCarthy to fill a position he didn't think he needed last year. The Packers didn't have a full-time receivers coach in 2015, and the unit struggled. Nelson got hurt, Cobb was ineffective, Davante Adams and Jeff Janis didn't make the jump the organization was expecting, and the Packers' deep passing game was non-existent. Some blamed the lack of a position coach. That excuse is now gone thanks to Getsy.

Is Getsy a Pitt alumni? Thought he finished up his playing career at Akron. Either way best wishes to him.

Yeah, he's not a Pitt guy. He was here for a minute. Didn't want to sit, and left.

And if you recall his transfer, which occurred during training camp effectively left Pitt without a backup.

I guess you gotta do what's right for you - but to call him a Pitt man after that isn't something I'm likely to do.

Seems like a good kid and very determined. Nice to see his hard work paying off. Coaching is not an easy racket to break into and get traction.

Agree, with all above, he is not a Pitt Alumnus and will correct my post, but I think Getsy and Flacco learned how to be a better QB at Pitt. Just like Getsy and Flacco, Roethlisberger also credited Pitt's Walt Harris with improving his QB Game when he came to Harris' QB Summer Camps for just a few weeks.

In my view, Recruits go where they want, and when they want and wish them well, that is just me and others can differ. What is great about them all is they do what is best for them and if Coaches chose someone else, I can't blame them?

I remember how Walt Harris was able to teach and develop QBs and how Jay Paterno once approached him and asked if they can exchange information and Walt said no.

One never knows but both came to Pitt and could return someday as a Coach and great to see they learned at Pitt.

I am glad they spent time at Pitt but you and others are correct, and Thank You!

Flacco is not a Pitt guy either

Agreed...definitely not a Pitt guy but as I remember things, it was Flacco that effectively left Pitt without a backup. I think Getsy requested a transfer right after Palko was named the starter and was granted a release by Wanny. Really nothing unusual in Getsty's request. Shortly thereafter, Flacco did the same. Wanny refused to give him his release forcing him down to UDel. Flacco and his father whined over that in quite a public fashion.

I have no ill will towards Getsy. A) I never blame anyone for doing what is in their best interest. If he stayed at Pitt he would never of got a shot at the NFL playing behind Palko. B) Not sure how true it was, but from what I was told Getsy knew he was behind Palko and was ok with that as Getsy redshirted and Palko was not suppose to. So Getsy was fine sitting for 4 years for his chance to start his 5th year. When they redshirted Palko that basically screwed Getsy over. Again not sure how true that is, but that is how I heard it went down.

I have no ill will at all towards Getsy. I'll never ever call him a Pitt man however, and I roundly dislike any discussion that includes him as a Pitt connection.
