Playstation Vue ending service in 2020

Just saw the news.

I was actually contemplating switching back to Vue this week, from YTTV. Guess I can forget about that now.

Sony never marketed it right though. They insisted on keeping Playstation in the name, thus the average person thought they needed to buy a Playstation to stream.

I was hoping that Amazon or Walmart would've bought them out, hopefully they still.

Slower than expected change? I don't think so. They just lost to other services.

Yea. YouTube TV, Hulu, and Sling were the winners. I honestly think if it was just called "Vue," they would have done a lot better. I never even looked into it simply because it has the PlayStation name which makes it sound childish.

Honestly, before I did all the research, and even after, I still associate that you need a PS to have Vue (even though I know you don't). And before I did any research, I automatically thought that. I think that did hurt them.

I think you are on to something. I thought the same thing initially.

How many great items has Sony not marketed correctly?

Betamax; MemoryStick Micro Card; Digital Audio Tape; cell phones that used a special charging cord; and so on.

There have been so many great things that they produced that died because Sony didn't allow anyone else to use their proprietary formatted products.

They had a great component stereo system 30 years ago. The only problem is that the components could only be plugged into each other. They wouldn't work with any other company's receiver.

I would think just about any prospective customer would have thought you needed a Playstation. Why on Earth would you call it "Playstation Vue" if you didnt need one? Why not "Sony Vue?" This seems like one of those cases college students will be reading in business textbooks in a few years.

Agree. Honest question. When was the last time you bought a Sony product?

I'm guessing unless you bought a PlayStation it has been a decade or longer. Samsung/Vizio/LG took a huge market share away from a lot of products Sony produced. Back in the late 80s to early 2000s Sony owned the electronics market place. There was higher quality stuff with a higher price tag for the classes, but the masses bought Sony. Now chances are you never even look at a Sony model tv, speaker/sound bar/etc.
