Other than absolute stupidity. They can’t stop the run and we get tricky for a 3 yard loss and throw an incomplete pass stopping the clock.

I think when they narrowed it to two scores and the first down play was an apparent trick play that didn’t work, resulting in a 3 yard loss for Pickett was a head scratcher. Then we run twice easily making the 13 yards, and the next 1st down play is an incomplete pass to Ollison which stops the clock, that is a head scratcher. On that one we had 4th and 1 after 2 running plays and Ollison took it to the house on 4th down. So the drive turned out fine, but both of the 1st down calls made no sense to me.

I agree about the pooch kickoff. With so little time left in the 1st half and VT not having shown any real ability to return kickoffs a long way, you kick it deep. One thing I have noticed the past three weeks is that Kessman no longer is booting every kickoff into the end zone like he did earlier. Maybe when it is cold it is harder to kick that deep, but for whatever reason most of his kicks now are being returned. VT returned 7 kickoffs today, but only for about 150 yards, a little over 20 per kickoff.
