A total no-brainer for Pitt and just shy of that for Penn State. There is no question that a big rivalry game that people talk about all year round helps both teams. It is very petty/shortsighted of them to see it any other way.

I'll be all for playing them every year as soon as I see some indication of a change in the culture that fostered the cover up of decades of serial child rape.

Until that, their appeal to me will rank somewhere beneath the annual renewal of the Carnegie Tech and W&J rivalries.

Incidentally, the Backyard Brawl should be held every single year too and for the exact same reasons.
Agree.

Interestingly and somewhat disturbingly, since the Brawl died off several years ago, Pitt and WVU seem to have lost the "trademark" to the name--I heard numerous sports reporters on the lead-up to the Michigan/MSU game referring to it as the "Backyard Brawl"--a term I've never hear associated with that game in the 35 years I've lived in Michigan. Back in the day, that term meant only one game to college football fans across the country--Pitt v. WVU.

Using that term for the UM/MSU game is akin to calling the Mets/Yankees game the Crosstown Classic, when that name has been associated with the Cubs/White Sox for 100 years. Not good. That's what happens when you discontinue traditional rivalries.

Nope, it is still a live registered trademark shared by Pitt and WVU. USPTO Serial Number 77745437

Well there's some work for an IP lawyer here in Michigan then.

While I know it will be very difficult, yes, I think we should play every year.

Would also love to play WVU every year along with ND.

With that being said, it is almost impossible in this world to have both, so if we can at the very least have 1 of the 3 on our schedule every year, I'd be happy.

Not unless they're selling merchandise with it on or using it in official marketing or logos. If they are, then Pitt and WVU IP will shut it down...maybe through CLC.

Reporters can say whatever stupid stuff they want. But Pitt and WVU have to be careful that they don't appear to have abandoned it.

My skin is already crawling at the thought of spending time with the Herpes-like festering cultists at Heinz Field next year.
