pink, until they can prove they do not deserve it to be otherwise...What shade of blue and gold should Pitt pick and stay with forever?
Pitt and their decreasing fan base just received a terrible beat down from ups by 45 points and the OP wants to again discuss asinine colors. Give it a break, just go back to the late 40’s and most of the 50’s, Navy jerseys home with Kahki pants, White jerseys away with khaki pants and take your pick early 50’s Gold helmet with Blue stripe and later Blue helmet with Gold stripe. Now we have a few fans that don’t want white pants as part of the uniform, I thought the team or Seniors had a voice in uniform selection.pink, until they can prove they do not deserve it to be otherwise...
Bumping this. Looks like a near-tie between Majors colors and Gottfried colors.
I am not a fan of "Steeler yellow" or "Heinz Field Seat Yellow" of the Gottfried era. I prefer the Majors mustard.
But it doesn't matter what the "school's colors" are. They haven't been following them for years. Pick something that is distinctive (like the royal and yellow script) and go with it.Navy wins out over Periwinkle non throwback throwback.
There’s a reason why great traditions like Michigan never bring up going to anything other than its Blue...doesn’t go out and focus group a bunch of kids looking for a change every 5 yrs.
It’s pretty easy the school’s colors are Navy and old gold.
Pitt is never, ever, ever bringing back mustard yellow. Pretty soon the “throwback” colors will be university wide. It’s not the 70s anymore it’s 2018, they’re not gonna put their cheerleaders in something that’s not at least somewhat bright and flashy. And while football may be the most significant, they wouldn’t use for example the mustard color, if they thought every other sports uniform looked awful with that color.
I think the current basketball throwbacks are phenomenal. If they change nothing and those become the full time look I’d be great with that. Maybe they’ll change the football pants up a little bit or something like that, but I doubt it will be a drastic change. In an era where television is the biggest money maker they’re gonna use hues that pop out on tv and catch your eye.
That's because it is ugly.I love how that mustard looked. Sharper than yellow and its unique. Lots of teams wear yellow. Nobody wears mustard.
That's because it is ugly.
OK then, if the colors matter then everyone has to yell , genack, genack, Hoorah! Wup! every game too!You forgot to include the actual university colors dating from before 1890:
At some point, duller, earth tone colors will be cool again, and we'll be wearing torchcut retros, likely just in time to catch the tail end some waning fashion trend.
In the mean time, whatever is popular with the 16-24 year old crowd is probably the way to go. The base colors for the university, however, should be the original old gold and navy, not that it is exactly a precise scheme either. However, I have no issue with the athletic department switching to sell whatever shades are trendy at the moment. But my goodness, this university always has and still does have no idea how to brand itself consistently.
It's funny to me how you old guys don't wear brash. bold colors, I'm 59 and I do. I want to get some of the Pitt gear with the super brash colors.Because it seems so darn distressing to people that Heinz field seats are yellow, it seems obvious that yellow should be incorporated. Like the throwbacks of the last couple years. Do i particularly like that combo? No. But it's brash for the youth set and it would match the seats. Using non yellow all these years never made sense, our admin knew that the stadium would rarely be full.
Same. I wish we would’ve never changed anything about our unis. But as we saw with the many different shades during the years, had we not had the rebranding in ‘97, we probably still end up with script pitt in different shades of blue and gold than the majors I years.I love how that mustard looked. Sharper than yellow and its unique. Lots of teams wear yellow. Nobody wears mustard.
Just Win Baby!!What shade of blue and gold should Pitt pick and stay with forever?
And removed from your seat if not.....OK then, if the colors matter then everyone has to yell , genack, genack, Hoorah! Wup! every game too!

Maybe, maybe best case scenario which I would love to see - Pitt makes the current throwbacks the permanent uniforms university wide, same bright colors that hoops and football wore last year, same pretty basic jersey tops in football. But then once a year, wear actual throwbacks in football, the ones worn against YSU in ‘05.... Sleeve stripes, more of the mustard shade of yellow. I think that would be a fair compromise.

At least half of them if not more still look more like old gold than banana. LolIt's not a Pitt thing. Schools that abandoned/ignore Old Gold as their 'official' color and opt for more marketable yellows and golds include the following:
Iowa
WVU
ECU
Purdue
Minnesota
Vandy
GT
Missouri
Wake
UAB
Tulsa
UCF
There is no periwinkle. At least half of them if not more still look more like old gold than banana. Lol
And those aren’t exactly blue bloods so mucking up colors sb expected.
Pitt will not go with the non-throwback throwback periwinkle..........
You can bet dat.
Will end up looking like WVU......Mark it down.
Periwinkle is what the never used throwback throwback blue looks like to meThere is no periwinkle.
Blue bloods haven't been changing their colors, mascots, and designs for 50 years. We aren't even close to a blue blood. It doesn't matter, AT ALL, what the colors were listed as in the 19th century. It isn't remotely relevant to what is marketable and what they should be moving forward.
No question. Unfortunately we came out and fumbled I think it was the first 3 possessions that weekend vs. Georgia Tech, but I remember when that was announced in 2014 there was excitement around here to see that back on helmets.Ultimately being back with "script Pitt" was the more important decision made.
Someone called it the other day. By constantly rebranding, it is a diversionary tactic of sorts to take attention away from ugly on field and on court results. Can't easily change that, but we can change our colors and logo for the umpteen time.
Maybe it also gives a brief jumpstart to slacking merchandise sales as well. With bad teams that jump doesn't sustain itself of course, leading to more changes... and repeat.
Also, revolving door ADs contribute to this as well. Nobody ever gets hired to a powerful position vowing to keep things the SAME.
It kind of reminds me of The Office when Michael Scott is interviewing for the big Dunder Mifflin job in New York. David Wallace asks him what he would change. He answered, I've always thought we should get rid of the name Dunder Mifflin! It's like they took that from Pederson and Pitt(sburgh). Which still haunts us today, witnessed by the ACC announcers for our game last week, and how most tickers list us.
Regarding the last point, the 8 years of rebranding from 1997 to 2004 has nothing to do with media referring to us as "Pittsburgh" at this point, 14 years later. If it did, that was one successful rebranding, but it obviously was a complete failure because it was changed after only eight years. The media uses "Pittsburgh" because that is a standardization among some media outlets to refer to the schools using the name without the "University of". It's like when you see places refer to Mississippi and not Ole Miss. Same reason you'll see "Pittsburgh Panthers" and not "Pitt Panthers" as the title of relevant Wikipedia articles. It is a standardized nomenclature. Use of Pitt often depends on context and familiarity. It is much more obvious to local audiences than national audiences.
