I just want a winning record, even if it means going 11-9. Four straight losing seasons is sickening enough. The thought of five is brutal.

Sure. Thinking 10th to12th. Big jump the following year to 4th to 6th.

Basically agree. IMHO, finish in the #9-12 grouping; but, #9 or #10is more likely than #11 or #12 based on last season's ACC standings. IMHO we go up from 6 wins to 8 or 9 which would have meant #9 or #10 last season.

I believe we would have to get to 10 wins to get to #8 or higher and into the next group (#5 to #8). I don't quite see that big a jump happening.

A W.A.G. prediction (assuming we get a full season not truncated by Covid): 9-2 OOC, 8-12 ACC, 1-1 ACCT = 18-15 => NIT Bid => possible 20 win season.

A final result such as 20-16 would show nice program progress, IMO.

I don’t see how people think we win more games this year. There won’t be a non conference season to figure things out and all of our bigs are young. Winning 6 in the ACC (which will be better this year) would still signify progress towards a 4th year NCAA goal.

My main concern is that the ACC was a mess last year and we missed a chance to take advantage. Even if we are better, what does that look like in a year where I would expect things to normalize? BC should be in the basement, but how quickly does Forbes make an impact at Wake? What does Young look like in year 2 at VT? Can we get past schools like ND/Clemson into a solid mid tier program in the conference?

A lot of questions exist and that’s before you factor in injuries or any craziness related to the virus. The pieces are in place for a step forward, but the context of what that progress looks like will be interesting

A veiw from outside.
Consider it this way. Here are last year's standings:
1 Florida State 16-4
2 Duke 15-5
2 Louisville 15-5
2 Virginia 15-5
5 Georgia Tech
6 Notre Dame
6 North Carolina State
6 Syracuse 10-10
9 Clemson
10 Virginia Tech
10 Miami (FL)
10 Boston College
13 Pittsburgh 6-14
13 North Carolina
13 Wake Forest
Pitt is not in a vacuum. Are any of the top eight teams likely to have become so bad that they will drop to the bottom third of the conference? Secondly, of those remaining, who has improved and who has worsened? Wake and BC are likely to have worsened, IMO, and seem likely to be in the cellar. Miami will probably be much improved. Last year was probably an aberration for UNC. How much better they will be is unknown, but they did have a pretty good recruiting year. So, which team will have progressed more: Pitt, VT, Clemson, or (maybe, Syracuse)? Will any of those four have regressed? It seems probable that Pitt will end up in a tie with someone in that 13th to 10th spot (possibly 9th). But, you never know.
