A win is a win and a conference win at that. Nice bounceback from last week. My immediate impressions.

1. Ollison and the ground game looked good. Really dictated the game in first half.
2. Weaver played a wonderful game today on D. Outside that last drive I thought the D played well overall. Hamlin nice first half.
3. WAY less penalties/better discipline than last week.
4. Offensive line played well both run blocking and pass protection.
5. No special teams mishaps.

Things to improve upon:
1. Second half offense; only 3 points.
2. A little too cute of play calling. The double reverse pass INT in 3rd shouldn’t have been called. Pitt could’ve pounded it at GT and ended the game right there.
3. White pants.

Onto Chapel Hill! H2P

Nice post, but disagree on 2. to improve on. EVERYONE screams about needing to go for the kill shot and opening up the offense. It was a good call, Kenny did not throw soon enough and even at that the GT DB got to plow the Pitt to set up a ricochet int.

When I saw the immediate interception after getting the ball back, the Steeler/Brown game flashed before my eyes.

Yes. Have to like that kind of call in that situation. Just poor execution.

It was a stupid call. We had a guy open, but the situation was totally wrong. Yes, it’s ok to open things up, but you have to know the situation. Dummies go for kill shots. Run the ball, bleed the clock.

Bad call on the reverse pass in 2 ways. First, even if you run the clock & kick a FG there you’re up 21 in the 4th quarter against and offense that isn’t designed for that. Second, you have to call that on the other side of the 50 to give the receiver enough space & not allow the DBs you fooled to come back into the play

No problems at all with the call. I was sick of vanilla, and wanted to go for the jugular. Receiver was wide open and Pickett held the ball too long.

Also, it was one of the worst non calls I have seen on a PI call.

In any case, that could have potentially put us up 31-6...if the refs call the game evenly in the second half I think pitt wins by 20.

Also, no, the hit on Pickett was not a bad call. Pickett was jogging out of bounds and the guy came flying into his legs.

Every year we play GT it seems like they never call any holding on them. With the offense they run I find that close to impossible.

Yeah, the hit on Pickett was an easy call. You get that 100 pct. of the time now. I don't like it but it was the consistent call. The second reverse pass looked like PI to me but maybe I'm a homer. The only missed call on us that I saw was a horse collar on a 3rd down stop but they ended up scoring anyway. That facemask penalty burned me up. Technically, grabbing any part of the headgear is a penalty but that seemed chincy to me on such a big play.

My random postgame thought is how does Paul Johnson have a 15 million dollar buyout? That’s just GT bidding against themselves. Did they think Army or Navy was going to come along and steal him?

Uhhh.... 3x ACC Coach of the Year?? When Pitt has a coach w/ that resume... well...

That’s fine, but where is Johnson going? There is zero demand for Paul Johnson at any other P5 school. He’s never been involved in a single coaching rumor and never will be. So why did GT agree to a 15 million dollar buyout? Because the product is so good? So what? If you think the clothing store is under charging what they should for a jacket, do you voluntarily give them more money because it’s so good?

Johnson on borrowed time, he had a good run but barring an immediate turnaround he probably needs an upset of Georgia at the end of the year to keep his job.

Their special teams and defense has sucked the entire time under him.
When he has it working, they just offensively death march teams so it mitigates the damage those units can do. I still remember that drive against Miss. State in the Orange Bowl which basically took the entire quarter. It doesn’t matter how bad bad any other units are when you are going on 14 minute drives.
Those death marches have stopped the last few years.

Pickett played a good game, but he was late on a couple throws. He’ll get better with experience and trust himself to throw it before he sees the wr open.

Patrick Jones is light years better than Hendrix and needs to start with Weaver. They need to teach him when he feels helmet, let go!!!!!

I thought the interrior line looked good. Roy, Watts, Camp, Wheeler, Twyman...played solid.

Ollison continues to impress.

Mack runs nice route’s and secured the ball well today.

Looks like the TE won’t be a part of the offense this year.

OL played good today in pass and run protection. That was very nice to see.

On the Flea Flicker after the fumble recovery, no problem with the call but it took too long to develop and wasn't there. Pickett needed to throw the ball away.

Terrible game from him today.
Horrible fake punt decision
Shoulda kicked the fg in the 1st half
Should not have went for 2 that early
Tomlin bad use of TO’s at the en of the game. He pretty much ran the clock out for Pitt.
The fake punt itself was a good idea. The play he called, and the player, were the problem. 6 to go so you give to a lineman?

I’m wondering if we will see Pickett go into 3 and 5 step drops. He always seems to be moving/rolling out while throwing. Hard to be accurate like that, but he’s done ok.

1. Pickett is capable of leading this team and making tough 3rd down throws. However, I will say I'm surprised in his arm strength down field.
2. Weaver and Wirginis are studs (not good), but flat out studs.
3. OL was good again in the run game and OC really helped them with more 1st down passing plays.
4. Team looked very focused.
5. Shocky and Mack need more targets
6. H2P

The receiver had enough space so that if the quarterback had thrown the ball when he should have it would have been an easy score. The receiver also had enough space so that if the quarterback had not underthrown the ball it would have been an easy score. The problem wasn't the play call or the time of the game that it happened or the field position we were in when we called it, the problem was that we poorly executed the play.

Or at least one person did.

Cant even lie ya, im worried about picketts issue holding the ball, it was really noticeable today he could of passed for 400 and 2 tds.....maybe those receivers aren't the problem...i even thought it a lil bit in the pedst game that has to change...it will drastically change our season we should of won by 21 today but other then that im happy nice Building block game

He’s played 3 games. In High School, you can wait till a wr is open before you throw it. In College you have to get rid of it quicker. In the NFL, you just throw to spots. He’ll get better as he plays more.

Nice bounce back win. Credit to the staff and the players.

Good assignment football and discipline on D vs triple option, especially in the 1st half.

Weaver- Excellent game. Never seems to give up on a play.

Pickett to Mack- Hope to see a lot more of that combo.

Aston- Beast of a lead blocker in the run game. Our run game is way better when he is in the game.

Very poor execution. I know Kenny is still young but he continues to struggthe to release the ball quickly enough and becasue of it he often either underthrows it/throws it behind the receiver. He has had this issue in every game.

Kenny also still needs to prove he can score more often through the air (and I don’t mean him diving over someone).

I really looked forward to seeing that growth man, for my hearts sake lol

IF Picket plays like he has its unlikely we get more than 6 wins and may not get that. The offense is pretty average all around.. I don't think they can line up and consistently blow teams off the ball, they can run it if they have the threat of a good passing game however. RB's are pretty good but there isn't a shady mccoy on the roster. WR more of the same solid but nothing special. It really comes down to Picket being at least what he was against Miami and VT. IF he plays like that we got a shot in most games. IF he plays like he did in the second half of albany, PSU and Gt games its likely to be a long season unless the D is just lights out, I think the D will be pretty good but don't see them at that level.

Looked great in 1st half but the offense was very disappointing in the second half. They have to be able to pass effectively to counter the second half adjustments made against the run. Its a work in progress and I hope they get it taken care of before we run into a good defense. Still, nice rebound game.

I think a good defense is a concern, but UCF concerns me as well. They are going to put points on us. We need to be able to answer. I’m not confident we can win an offensive shootout right now.

one thing I noticed is pickett has throw the deep ball much better. he had some receivers running free in the tech game that if he doesn't under throw are easy tds...this game never should of been this close if he completes a couple of those long balls. I kind of noticed this in the 2 previous games also. he is young and hopefully will improve as the season move on...
