Postgame Immediate Thoughts . . .

It was a stupid call. We had a guy open, but the situation was totally wrong. Yes, it’s ok to open things up, but you have to know the situation. Dummies go for kill shots. Run the ball, bleed the clock.
We could’ve fairly easily ran the ball, killed the clock, and probably end up putting another score on the board. I would’ve much rather kept that play in our back pocket and bust it out say early in the UNC game, maybe run it from around our own 25 or so and really see how much we can fool the defense.

Granted if Pickett doesn’t hang on to the ball forever or a ridiculous interference is called everyone loves it. I just hope those aren’t the times Watson turns to trickery, while remaining stagnant and uptight during close games.

IF Picket plays like he has its unlikely we get more than 6 wins and may not get that. The offense is pretty average all around.. I don't think they can line up and consistently blow teams off the ball, they can run it if they have the threat of a good passing game however. RB's are pretty good but there isn't a shady mccoy on the roster. WR more of the same solid but nothing special. It really comes down to Picket being at least what he was against Miami and VT. IF he plays like that we got a shot in most games. IF he plays like he did in the second half of albany, PSU and Gt games its likely to be a long season unless the D is just lights out, I think the D will be pretty good but don't see them at that level.
KP has started all of what, 4 or 5 games with an 8 month break between? I must be the only person on planet Pitt who got better the more times I did things. Anyone who expected a polished QB at this stage of the season has never dealt with young people, or anyone new to something. Wisdom isn't bestowed on the young and it isn't assured with age. It is earned and applied. I can say this, the KP I saw against GT was far better than the KP I saw against PSU and the KP I see against UNC is more than likely going to better than the KP I saw against GT.

Yeah......I think the kid has a nice upside but theres nothing like live reps. As he progresses lets hope he sees the field better and is able to distribute the ball a bit better. We really need to be able to attack the middle of the field more to open things up and I think thats where young QBs are a bit more hesitant to throw because more picks occur on balls thrown over the middle. Hopefully with each game KP gains the confidence to exploit that.
