Predictions on what Matt's big news is?

Re: How about this: Heron reclassifying to 2015??

That would be huge news. And would instantly be a major improvement in our guard situation.

Pitt just signed a 10-year deal with THIS tv.*

Re: Pitt just signed a 10-year deal with THIS tv.*

Huge News - Heron reclassifying, Gibbs coming, Diallo coming
Decent News - Cook coming
Ho-Hum News - Konate coming

I am going with Ho-Hum. Strictly a guess.

His last tweet said it helps the '15 class. It it really is "great" news, as he said, it would have to be either Diallo committing or Heron reclassifying. Unless possibly Matt's definition of great is different from mine. I guess that's a possibility as well!!

Hopefully it's something like Diallo cut his list and we are still on it.

Best case is Diallo to Pitt and Heron reclassifies.

More realistic great news is Gibbs transfers in and Cook joins the Panthers.

With Nix coming in and Diallo likely not coming I hope it's two guards joining the team. This team needs them badly.

Re: Pitt just signed a 10-year deal with THIS tv.*

15 year deal with THIS TV

Nothing. Because no offense Matt, but he has a habit of tweaking Pitt fans something positive when we are down, and nothing ever really comes to fruition.

I think that's more of a Dokish thing than Matt.

I still have all of these Pitt Michael Beasley jerseys I'm trying to get rid of because of Doke.

Ha! That's funny.

Who was that assistant from D.C. who was so connected to Beasley and others? Last I saw he was at Georgetown. David Cox? I can't remember if he delivered one kid to us. Doke also mentioned a 6'11" kid who was like Kevin Garnett around that same time as Beasley.

Re: Pitt just signed a 10-year deal with THIS tv.*

Nice one pittizit, if that's the case I'll have to get new lithium batteries for my Sony Walkman.

Matt doesn't need me to speak for him ...

.... but I think the case with Matt is that he gets info that he's excited about, even if it's not information he can share.

I think he just wants to share that he is hearing something positive. He might be better off not saying anything, because some folks don't like to get their hopes up. But by no means is he putting it out there so he can say "I told you so" later.

Right. Plus, sometimes making the info public could undermine the situation and thus making it less likely the positive thing occurs in the end.

Purely Twitter speculation , but a couple of days ago there was tweet that Yawke (sp?) may reclassify to '15.

How about Diallo and Yawke as a package to Pitt to join Wilson? That would certainly be great news.

Heron reclassifying or Gibbs would certainly fit the great news bill.

He's really keeping us in suspense with this one. I expected him to post either last night after the game or this morning.

It just might be a way to drive up traffic, and nothing else to it. That is the favorite at this point.

How about.."Steve Pederson has been re-hired by the University of Pittsburgh. 3rd time is a charm"

On a related note, Jamie Dixon given a 20 year contract extension.

Cruzer

When the Sports Illustrated article on Curtis Malone Drug Kingpin/ DC Assault head came out, he bragged that no school got one of his (star) players unless they signed a guy from DC Assault as a coach. Cox was our hire, as DOB. He was at Rutgers a while with Rice.

Malone was the puppet master for those recruits. It was his decision where they went. I don't think he ever intended Beasely to go here, or the guard who went to Georgetown either. The guy they had slotted to us was a PF named Roscoe Davis. He was pretty good but never qualified. ESPN had him as a 5 star but mostly he was a 4. Even before his grades looked questionable, we were in love with Eloy Vargas in that same class, who was Antigua's guy and BK was pushing Kevin Jones.

Davis committed to WVU two different times but never qualified anywhere. He's playing somewhere overseas. Jones went to WVU and starred. Vargas spurned us for FLA at the last minute, got hurt and was a bust. He ended up playing a few minutes as a sub for some of Calipari's first KY teams. We ended up with Dwight Miller and JJ Richardson. And, eventually, playing 6-3 Nasir Robinson at 4.

Cox left for Georgetown before Rutgers but is now at Rhode Island.

This paragraph knocked the wind out of me.

Matt is close with Ashton so I'll throw my guess out there that Ashton told him Sterling is going to transfer here but its obviously not official since the season isn't over and he can't say anything until it does become official which won't be till April. I have no idea about this but that's just my guess.

To an extent, the Vargas situation opened my eyes to our true position in college basketball. The college basketball world does not regard us as an elite destination. Other schools still feel they can swoop in and snatch our targets. And, with Maverick and probably Diallo etc, they have. Holding Heron will be a struggle.

Yeah, we signed Taylor, Birch and Adams and there was a glimpse we might get there. But then it all crumbled.

IMHO, our best hope is to sign #75-150 guys and coach them up. We can knock off the blueblood ACC achools just like we did the 'Cuse's and UConns if we follow the plan and keep veterans in the system. Play men against boys and out-tough them.

Chasing 5-stars is a waste of time and money.

We have a coach who has proven he can win our way. We just have to stick with the plan and ignore the so-called fans who still want Calipari or Miller to ride in on a white horse, with a shady sidekick carrying the monetbags for the payoffs.

Harve - did we really pay for Birch?

I have also heard rumors that we paid for Taft.

I really don't get the feeling we are chasing 5 stars, it seems like the same model we have always had except the occasionally reaching. Its just that the guys that have developed for us in the past haven't. There aren't any Jarons, Carls, Aarons, BKs, or Chevy panning out. And the higher recruits have not panned out like young and blair did. See Dante and Khem and Epps

Lol. I was thinking the same thing, especially after there still hasn't been any news, and it's a day later.

As long as Geraldo isn't involved, I'll be happy with whatever Matt's big reveal is at this point.

I think we'll get there. "There" being where we are a destination. I'm more patient than most. I'm willing to give it another 10+ years. That's what it takes to build something lasting. Cuse, UCONN, MSU, ARI, have no institutional advantages that we don't have. Jamie can get us there.

From what I heard, we did not pay for Birch. I heard at one point we were strongly considering making a counter-offer if another team which was trying to steal him offered him money.

I do think Skerry had an arrangement with Birch that pre-dated any involvement with Pitt. Birch and Skerry had been linked for a long time before Pitt hired Skerry.

I've heard speculation that when Skerry left Pitt, whatever arrangement Skerry might or might not have had with Birch probably ended. That could have contributed to Birch's dissatisfaction here and been part of why he left.

I did hear that Skerry wanted to offer illegal benefits to several other 5-stars that he wanted to recruit here and that is why Dixon encouraged Skerry to leave.

I've never heard that we paid Taft. He was from Slice's high school. That was supposed to be the connection.

The whole universe of the basketball prep schools has never been adequately explained to me. Yeah, I know the preps offer scholarships just like the colleges, but it's never been clear to me exactly who pays for them and for ancilliary expenses. I think there are alumni or benefactors who support a lot of the kids from early in their careers. Given the way kids change schools like a girl changes clothes, to quote the Katy Perry song, I have trouble seeing how prep school alums would be paying all the bills.

SOMEBODY is covering expenses for a lot of kids for a long time. I don't think it is being done for altruistic reasons.

I used to think this but I now realize just how rare it is for a school with the history of Pitt to ascend to that level. The only way we could do that is if Dixon become an elite recruiter, which he clearly is not.

I think Havre74's strategy is much better. Sign the 75-100 kids, coach them up, become a top 20 defensive team in KenPom, and just hope that we can get a lucky streak in the NCAA's. It's not a recipe for becoming a elite program, but that's just a fantasy I think. It is a recipe for becoming a very successful program, which is what we were for a long time.

And if we somehow win the recruiting lottery one year by landing a elite 1 and done player, then at least we will have a quality team to surround him with.

You have zero appreciation for what Jamie has done here. I can't take these bandwagon jumpers...

any prediction on when we get matt's prediction?
