pretty interesting article

I am surprised Washington recruits so well (even better than the two teams that I thought would dominate recruiting in the Pac 12, USC and Oregon).

They have taken advantage of the Cali schools being down the last few years. The talent had to go somewhere, and it wasn’t going to get on a plane and go across the country.

Of the four California schools three of them can’t get most recruits in. UC, UCLA and Stanford are almost as bad as Pitt.

Stanford is the only university in the country that plays fbs that players must be admitted into the school prior to being offered.

Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Duke, and northwestern will shy away from marginal students but will offer depending on the talent.

As long as you're eligible, Pitt has no issues offering. We are like the other 99%, we're not selective.

Thank you for the insight.

How many years do you have to go back to find a superior high school recruit that Notre Dame backed off of because they weren't a very good student? Or maybe a better way to ask the question would be, how many decades do you have to go back?

I've seen them give an offer grade but not extend the offer until grades were improved. Now, if a Reggie Bush was interested and still NCAA cleared, they'd offer.

I don’t know what that means

In the article, BCR = "Blue Chip Ratio" (number of 4/5 star recruits divided by total number of recruits you have signed over the last 4 recruiting cycles) and the author is saying that to win (or at least challenge for) a National Championship, you need a BCR of ~ 50% or higher (you basically have to recruit/sign as many or more 4/5 star recruits as 2/3 star recruits over the previous 4 recruiting years to have a chance to challenge for the National Championship). I calculated Pitt's BCR to be ~8.5 %.... PSU is 56%..... Of course, this isn't an absolute thing but has held up for several years now ...... shows how important recruiting is.

Randy Moss. Lou Holtz's claim always was that Moss did not get in academically, so they had to let him go. Moss was involved in a huge fight though and a lot of folks speculate that was the reason they cut ties.

don't be surprised.

for all of you who maybe don't deal with seattle: it is a massive talent rich area overall. it's a wonderful big city. it's silicon valley w/out the massive pretentiousness. not kinda big business. worldwide big business. you want an internship at microsoft or amazon? no problem. west coast kids don't want to go to school in BFE like the big ten kids and SEC. everyone on the west coast knows the advantages of seattle.

i know Pittsburgh tries to bill itself as some kind of tech hub but it's absurd in comparison to seattle. seattle is cool for west coast kids. and the fans are there. they want their team to win in that city. USC is in the driver's seat, of course. but they keep screwing up. washington is taking advantage.
