PSU Game

Well said.

The historical truth is, in the first half of the 20th Century, many teams, especially from rural areas, wanted to go to Pittsburgh, then one of the to 10 largest cities in the country, to play because of media, recruiting, ease of travel, and the fact that Forbes Field and Pitt Stadium weren't the equivalent of high school stadiums.

No other cross-conference, in-state rivalry has any problem scheduling 1:1, and every single FBS football program supports the entire athletic department. The excuses are beyond asinine, and the ignorant cult morons lap it up like they've done so often with any other Paterno success with nonsense bilge.

However, I never wanted these filth back on our schedule, and I can't wait until they are off.
The whole oweing homes games is stupid. Penn State played at PItt because is more beneficial for Penn State like you pointed out.

I got my email from PSU. They have an electronic seat selection process. I can select my seat starting March 14. From talking to them, it seems like I can get a pretty decent seat. I will go to the Pitt game and sell the rest.
Did you donate $100/seat to get to choose your seats? What are the best seats that you can get for the $100 donation level? I went on their website but apparently that info isn't for public knowledge. You jave to call in, which I did, but we continue to play phone tag.

Please stop feeding the perverted egos of these degenerates from the Sodomy capital of America by pleading for a renewal of the series. It's like asking Jerry to babysit your kids If I was given tickets at State College gratis with a couple hundred in perks per each, I would disgustedly refuse them. I only wish the remainder of the current series could be canceled.

How does it make sense to lock yourself long term into playing PItt in the only slot for a home and home game?

Penn State has the choice to either lose $6 million every other year to play PItt annually or Play PItt annually and never play any other P5 teams ever.
As Paco said, every single FBS football program supports their AD. But somehow the problem is much more critical at PSU? You play 9 in conference games, that leaves you 3 slots - 2 of which (if you're locked into Pitt/PSU annually) can be any silly game you'd like OR you can be a bit ballsy and actually schedule some other P5 school, basically what Pitt has done in the past, including this year.

PSU isn't special. The monetary demands from football aren't exclusive just to you. This is PSU's choice.

I'm glad we will be done with these creeps soon. They don't deserve mention with us.

I didn't make the donation yet but I will make it at the time of my ticket purchase. The donation amount varies by section but I think I'm sticking to the $100 level. I think I'm even buying 2-4 extra to SELL the Pitt game because the price of that game on the secondary market is right there with Michigan....but PSU fans dont care about Pitt.

I hate being associated with these creeps even as rivals. Let them play Akron and Kent State. I'm sure West Virginia could find a way to squeeze us in every year without crippling their athletic department financially....

It not just Penn State who plays 7 home games. Pitt more often than not plays 7 home games. Almost very P5 school tries to play 7 home games each year. I guarantee you if Pitt was making $6 million a year they would play 7 every year. When you don't make much off of home games like Pitt it easy to take the one year hit. Also Penn State unlike Pitt athletic department is self sufficient. They don't have the university paying millions to balance the athletic department budget. Would it be more responsible to play Pitt and then have the university cover the lost revenue?

You do realize Penn State and Pitt played the same number of P5 schools last year and will again next year?

Ok, i thought you had to donate to get on the list to choose seats for season tickets. I guess after the people on the list choose, it will open up to those who didn't donate yet?

Here the seating chart. Most likely the only seats left in the $100 level seats will be the upper rows upper decks. You may find a few scattered single tickets or pairs in the lower levels.

Reasonable response, but the whole" home game disparity" going back 50-60? years ago is a bit ridiculous.

It's not really a reasonable response. It's the type of thinking that got them in trouble with Jerry-Gate to begin with. That the football program is more important then anything in the world, it should trump EVERYTHING including rivalry games and even the innocence of little kids.

Seat selection start 3/14 and continue until 3/30. Selection time is based on points. With no donation you will select at the end of that window.

Will you be able to see what seats are available without donating? Or do you have to donate to see availability? Thanks.

No you can not see what available until your selection time. My selection time is not until 3/21 so I won't be able to let you know until then.

Who wants to go to that erector set stadium with a terrible far away fan view when you can watch the game on TV (with a fantastic view).

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Where were your seats this past season? I'm just trying to get a feel of what might be left based on your location last year and where you are in the selection window this year. Thanks.

Based on this thread, I called their ticket office today. They said most all the blue section is available to season ticket request, and since I got 6, I would most certainly have seats from my choice in the corners in NK, NL, NA, NB, NC area. She said more as well, but those are the ones I wrote down.

I dont even know where to start with this.

FIrst, you have no idea, as dont we, if Pitt is not self-sufficient, since Pitt does not release those numbers. But according to the numbers ope.ed.gov, Pitt IS self-sufficient.

OK, then as far as the same P5 schools. What are you trying to say there? Pitt has had the better schedule, and Pitt has the best OOC schedule next year.

1. Pitt's athletic department finances are public info contained in the Snyder Report. They don't make a press release but the numbers are available online. I have included the numbers for you.

Year Expenses Revenue Total
2016 $ 64,866,363 $ 56,324,373 $ (8,541,990)
2015 $ 64,988,344 $ 57,212,520 $ (7,775,824)
2014 $ 57,023,655 $ 49,234,695 $ (7,788,960)
2013 $ 50,004,506 $ 37,809,475 $ (12,195,031)
2012 $ 47,264,625 $ 39,934,172 $ (7,330,453)
2011 $ 47,362,871 $ 37,308,706 $ (10,054,165)
Total $ 331,510,364 $ 277,823,941 $ (53,686,423)

2. My point was the reason why Penn State only plays one P5 school OOC is because they already play 9 as part of the conference schedule. Pitt plays two because they only play 8 conference game. I made no comment to the difficulty just pointing out both schools play 10 P5 Schools.

My seats have been in NCU for years. The way they do the selection is current season ticket holders keep their seats until they select new ones. The $100 seat range most openings are in the north and south upper decks.

The stadium is a dump but there nothing like seeing a college football game live. TV is fine but it doesn't capture the pageantry, spirit and excitement as seeing the game in person. I am sure you loved watching the Clemson game but I am sure it was nothing like seeing it live.

I have no doubt that the game could be played annually if Pitt would go for a 3 - 1 or even a 2 - 1 series until the disparity between home game hosting became even. I'm sure you know that for many years Pitt hosted all the games, refusing to travel to Happy Valley. :)
Do you have any idea why that was done like that? It was not because Pitt refused to go to ups to play

I would not classify as a "ridiculously big game" for PSU. That's belongs to Ohio State and Michigan this year.

Pitt isn't good enough to be in that category. Important game I would say.

Interesting! That didn't seem to be what I witnessed last year from your PSU crew. OSU and Michigan are big for sure but sadly for PSU OSU and Michigan look down there noses at Penn St. So you may view your games with OSU and Michigan as a ridiculously big game but they don't look at Penn St any differently than when they play Michigan St, Wisky or Iowa.

No, they have the University paying tens of millions of dollars to pay off the settlements for what your former coach and his cronies covered up so as to not impact football. Big difference.

If Pitt wins that game, walking out of that place will be one of the greatest thrills of my life. I mean Clemson was indescribable but I'm sorry, for me, personall, winning at PSU would top that.

I don't think you're following. PSU is going to be undefeated going in to the Michigan weekend. Michigan and Ohio State are the two best teams on the schedule and are in conference. Am I not making sense?

Actually Pitt hosted and PSU WANTED to come here all those years because at the time the teams split the gate and Pitt Stadium held more than Beaver Stadium. Check your facts buddy. We refused nothing.

Well don't forget, they also have the added expenses of legal fees and restitution to fund, so there's that!

I will be there and am looking forward to it. I enjoy college football and as someone said, being in clemson was 1000× better than watching it on tv. In fact it might have been the best football experience I have ever been at.

Already the cult is back to acting like asswipes. Unfortunately they haven't beat the panthers in almost 2 decades.

I think I can offer a little personal knowledge and reflection on the decades of PSU traveling to Pitt virtually every year. In the early 50s my family lived next door to Rip Engle the long time PSUcoach immediately before Joe. My father was a Dean at PSU and very active in the athletic program and as a boy of about 10 I distinctly remember overhearing a conversation between Dad and Rip with Rip griping about always having to play at Pitt every year. He said it was because Pitt would not come to State College and if PSC wanted to play PITT it had to travel to Pittsburgh every year. Pitt had the muscle; it had nothing to do with State wanting to split the gate. Everything changed when Joe took over and PSU became the dominant program, and no longer needed Pitt so the games became a home and home.

As an old timer I love the rivalry being back, and hope it continues. In the 70's I worked in Pittsburgh and the games were great with good sportsmanship on both sides. Unfortunately, the anonymity of the internet allows the crazies on both sides to post comments they would never state on a face to face basis.

Really, you remember a conversation from when you were 10!

Joe did take over of ..........EVERYTHING! Sad end to his life with him passing with the guilt of all those victims weighing on his soul!

Dave, you understand you’re dealing with evolution here, from walking on all fours to standing up right.

You can’t come to this board and have a genuine conversation with the majority of these posters. “Old Tired Lion” was sincerely explaining the succession of playing at Pitt to Beaver stadium. They attacked him. So goes civility on the Lair.

StepEn69:

From your sign in name I'm assuming that you graduated from PSU in 1969 in which case you probably knew my father who was a Dean in the Engineering School until approximately 1968.

I take no offense at the the mildly offensive post by 9NationalChampions. My experience with most Pitt grads - including my wife - is they are most pleasant. There is always a jerk or two.

Yes, at Pitt, a tech can be bitten by a monkey in a lab. Major medical research is conducted at Pitt, you know like curing polio and stuff like that.

By contrast, a real proven danger at PedState is for a child to be raped by a football coach in a shower.

The difference is at Pitt, the offending monkey was removed. At PedState, the offending coach was granted emeritus status, and his deeds were covered up by the head coach, the AD, the chief of the campus police, and the chancellor!
