PSU giving the Cuse all they can handle in a close game.
The Syracuse team is loaded. They're big, REAL big,
and are talented. They're also good in the backcourt
with a talented pg.
Our women will have their hands full with this team.

I'm laughing, sometimes it feels like it. I watch a lot of
Bball. Given this COVID crap, I'm inside more. A lot of
reading.... right now re reading Tocqueville's
Democracy in America. Thank God for Netflix and
Showtime.....just finished Ray Donovan (a few years
too late LOL). Shameless starts again tonight, for
those on here that can stomach the dysfunctional
Gallaghers. Anyway that's some of my life these
days.

PITT women at 6..

They are supposed to be, but all I get is a message that the game has not started yet. Which is not true, as Pitt is behind 11-6 at the first media timeout.

There's nothing listed on ACCNX on the my app. As if nothing is streaming.

It's odd, because if I look at the schedule on the watch ESPN site it does not show the game in today's listings. But if you follow the link from the Pitt web site it does go to a page for the game. Which still shows the game as having not started yet. Which is wrong, because the game is currently at the end of the 1st quarter.

Pitt is turning the ball over like crazy (9 in the first quarter) and is losing by nine.

It's on now if you haven't checked.

Is their really a post about PSU’s women’s basketball team on the Pitt basketball forum? JFC.

And the Pitt women get a technical called on them for playing with six players.

The funny thing is that Pitt played with six on offense and no one noticed, it wasn't until after Pitt scored and Delaware drove the ball up the court that anyone noticed that Pitt was playing with six players.

Years ago, I once had a 6th player on the court. Of course it was a 4th grade youth basketball game...

Extremely embarrassing and it’s on the coaches. That should never ever happen!

Watched the game from just before Pitt took its brief 3rd quarter lead. Extremely poor perimeter defense and just truly awful defensive rebounding. Poor or non existent boxing out. You should never allow a team, especially one without great height to get so many offensive rebounds. Truly awful display of inept defense, IMHO.

The amazing thing is how long it took anyone to notice. I mean Pitt came out of a timeout with six and ran a play that got them a three, and no one noticed. It wasn't until Delaware came down fast and broke what was probably supposed to be a Pitt press that anyone noticed Pitt had six players on the court.

Harris or Everett has to be on the floor at all times. If not this will be the result. No one else can control the game.

Harris missing a lot of time with some foul trouble didn't help (she played 23 minutes). But on the other hand she ended up with six of Pitt's astounding 24 turnovers, so it also wasn't anything close to her best game.

They turn the ball over too much and they foul a lot. In the words of Mr. Obvious, that's a bad combination.

They turn it over because they're so often out of control. Coach
White wants up tempo, but you still have to play with some
semblance of control. This was a problem last year especially
with Harris. Like we're often saying about X, the same is true
with Harris....slow it down. let the game come to you, and
involve your team mates. She's talented, but White has to
get her to play in control. Her team mates for the most part
can't play at her pace, especially Hayford who tries to go
at that pace and ends up turning it over. She hurt the team
on both ends tonight.

Contrast this to Delaware who played through our overly
aggressive defense. They controlled the ball and got off
some good shots. I know we're young, but that was messy
tonight. Delaware has two players as good as any of ours.
I put a lot of this on coaching. We're not good enough to
play this pace against a team that's coached well...and
Delaware was well coached. They went to their strengths
and exposed our weaknesses.

ACC is a whole other animal then Delaware.

The other thing that just killed us defensively is that we were basically daring Delaware to shoot threes. We played way off on the perimeter, we went under ball screens, and so on. And yet Delaware's two guards (McBride and Johnson) were a combined 8-15 on threes.

I don't know anything about Delaware or their players, so maybe going in that was the correct strategy. But at some point with them making their shots you have to adjust and start putting defensive pressure out to at least the line, if not a little beyond.

I agree. Whether we knew them or not (and I'm sure White
had a scouting report), you have to adjust, we didn't. Aside
from being out of control on offense, the same holds true
on D. We're outta control there too.

IMO we're not good enough to do some of the things we're
trying to do. They handled our pressure for the most part,
got wide open looks, and as another poster mentioned, gave
up the baseline (you NEVER give up the baseline!). Notice
how they handled our press at the end...spread the floor,
moved the ball, didn't get double teamed, and even got
layups. That's coaching.

One thing that didn’t help today was that Coach Terri Mitchell missed being at the game due to the death of her mother.
Sometimes I think Coach Mitchell plays the bad cop. Sounded like Pitt needed some of that today.

Glad to see Cynthia getting minutes so she can shake the rust off. Amazing that Pitt lost while shooting 49% overall and 41% from 3. But all those turnovers and all those extra possessions were too much to overcome.

Condolences to Coach Mitchell.

Not just turnovers but really poor defensive rebounding—at least In the 2nd half. Delaware got so many second chance buckets right at the hoop or in the paint because it appeared that no one was boxing them out.

Maybe the strategy was to have the guards and wings break once a shot was up presuming Rita or Cynthia would snare any rebound? If that was the plan it didn’t work because it yielded far too many 2nd chance points to Delaware off of offensive rebounds.

The best pure rebounder is Brown, however she is only 6'.
Igbokwe is big, but she's a bit slow and can't get up. This
was one game where we had the height advantage.
Once we hit the ACC we're gonna get beaten badly
inside IMO. If Delaware did that to us, I unfortunately
can only imagine what's coming in the league.

From what I saw vs Delaware, you are absolutely correct about getting beat badly inside in ACC play. The coaches better teach them to box out and not let opposing players freely crash the offensive boards. This is basic basketball when you don’t have a dominant tall agile defensive rebounder owning the glass.
