QB'S

A few months ago there was a question asking what posters thought of Pitt's QB recruits. My reply was honest but negative in which I stated roughly it was bad. I caught a lot of flack and I'm sure I'll catch more after this. PSU just received a commitment from a 4 star QB for 2017 and has a 4 star incoming for 2016 yet we get excited about a JV QB who has never thrown a varsity pass and only got a 3 star because of his Pitt commitment. Let's be honest we know had he committed to a MAC school he would be a 2 star tops. And our incoming QB isn't even the best in the area (WPIAL) he went to Duquesne. If Mcvittie and Dinucci were that good Peterman wouldn't be here (recruited by the same person/position coach so that says something).Yet many fans don't see a problem with this. My comment was if there are other better QB's out there (and I listed numbers in my response) why aren't they coming to Pitt ? If Whitehead was the same at his position (CB) as Mcvittie (qb) would we be excited or would posters say Narduzzi can't recruit ? Why is that different ? If anything it's worse. Many people believe that QB is the most important position on the field, so with that being said why are Pitt fans happy with second level QB's ? We as fans talk like we want to be with the top teams, but if you want to play with the big boys you got to recruit with the big boys. We all want to see Narduzzi and the panthers succeed, second level QB's don't cut it. Sorry for those of you who disagree.

Recruiting the top QBs has a longer arc - you don't just show up one year from signing day and come in out of the blue and score a top 10-15 QB if you aren't a major, major. Most of the top QBs were committed or had cut their lists down to a few schools by that point.

They did well to get a kid with McVittie's talent. They also did well to get Perriman in to backup Voytik, that made up for the poor roster distribution, and Bertke is a reasonable developmental guy, with Voytik possibly on track to be a good college QB who can win games.

It is not saying much, because the QB recruiting for this program has been so shallow for so long, but this is the best the depth chart has looked in a while.

huh???? Why on earth would you bring in a pocket passer to get a yard on 3rd or 4th down?

I swear some dont even think before they post. He is a big athletic QB that can move the pile (presumably) more than Voytik. That is all I said.

Wow... just wow... Voytik isnt the pile mover type. So, you bring in someone else that can take the focus off Conner in short distances. I BET that is why they brought Bossory in in the first place... if he can perform in practice would be something else.
We have a 240 pound, acc player of the year, running back who will be just fine on short down and distances. If narduzzi brings in the 7th string qb walk on and elects to keep the ball in his hands over our heisman candidate running back, he will be the first coach ever fired in mid game and carried out of the stadium and thrown into the river

as pitt fans, were lucky this kind of thing happens all the time...

You have to take OPF posts with a grain of salt, after all, he'd be upset if Aaron Rogers or Ben Roethlisberger were coming to Pitt - couple of no good 2 stars.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't done this with a coach yet, since just about every other crazy scenario has gone down in the past 30 years. I guess we shouldn't rule out the possibility.

As for a running quarterback, how about, you know, our current starter, who has had a bunch of big runs in his short time at the helm?

I'm not against the specialist 3rd down qb if your starter isn't already an adept runner ... but our guy is.

We now have two former top 10 4 Star QBs on the roster. Voytik and Peterman were the #4 and #8 QBs respectively. Both have 2 full years of college playing time left. Bertke and DiNucci are both low level prospects but both are also young. As for MacVittie, it's way too early to tell. There is every reason to believe that he will be a more coveted and highly rated recruit after playing QB his senior season.

If anything, this thread should be about how much better Narduzzi and Chaney have been at recruiting QBs in 7 months than Chryst was in 3 years. The only one of the 5 QBs now on our roster Moose Lodge brought in was Bertke. And Duzz has added 3 already.

This is not a flame - he went to school ten miles from where I live.

What do you think would have happened if Tra'Von Chapman were still around? Did he even get a chance to play or was he gone before practice, a season, etc.

I think he meant….You are a flame

He went through spring because he was an early enrollee. He was kicked out before fall camp. From what I remember, his passing was raw and didn't really impress the spring. He didn't blow people away at Ashland and he ended up at Akron who is considering dropping down to FCS. So, I don't see any signs that he would've been much.
