Who should/could Pitt hire to replace Jamie if you got your wish?

I disagree that he should be fired and deserves at least 2 more years if he misses the dance again but just curious who you think we can get.

For me, Sean Miller is call #1. How happy is he in Tucson? Are expectations unreasonable there? Does he like his boss? Does he like living in Mexico North? Its worth a call.

If he turned us down, Archie probably shows up at Barnes's door asking when he can start. Pitt can probably double his salary and he would be coaching in the big-time not far from where he grew up.

Screw them both.

Absolutely I call Sean Miller. I don't like our chances though. And the fact our former point guard probably doesn't even consider leaving his current school for here is why I would not just fire Dixon blindly. I can't see him ever being fired from here, but IMO if Pitt doesn't make the tourney this year (still looks good right now) I would seriously be panicking. He'll be back next year regardless, but missing the tourney this season would be a monumental failure.

If Jamie misses the tourney this year, he is one year closer to getting fired. If he misses 3 straight years, he may be gone if they can swing the money. If a school like Pitt fires its most successful coach ever, I suspect candidates will see that and be nervous because it's not like we have some strong tradition and recruiting base that make it easy here. It will show we are insane, especially if done mid-season. If we make the tourney this year, Jamie buys more time to turn it around. Schools like Pitt don't fire coaches who make the tourney. We aren't Zona, UCLA or UK.

If we fire Jamie right now, or at the end of the season, we also likely lose Manigault and Kithcart, two guys we desperately need. We will probably stink worse awhile if we make a change, because it's hard to ramp up in year one at least.

There will always be someone out there willing to take the Pitt job. People have hired Bruce Pearl and Martin. Desperate schools will do that. I just can never see Pitt doing that. Our recent history in FB and BB shows we hire a rather obscure coach from a small school or an assistant in their first HC gig. I have no idea why people think that will change, or why that person, whoever it is, would do any better.

The people in charge want to win - the Chancellor and AD. We just hired one of the best soccer coaches. When is the last time that happened? If JD were to leave, then we are in much better position to make a quality hire.

Good point. Although the ghost of Jonas Salk could probably do a better job hiring a coach than Pederson could have. That's about the only reason I think this even worth possibly considering in the future. If Pederson were still here, there would have been no choice other than to hang on to Dixon.

Discussing JDs replacement is way premature. The team would have to tank both this year and next year for there even to be a remote discuss of replacing him for the 2017-2018 season and even then he'd probably get that season as well to right the ship.

As Kiwi said if he makes the NCAA this year and next, which he should, he will likely finish out his contract. News flash even the best coaches have bad stretches. Even legends like Coach K who can hand pick his roster has hand bad periods (in terms of Dukes standards).

This team is missing the grit that it had in years past. Add a kid like Gary McGee on this squad and it would be a serious contender to win the ACC. They really are not that far off. The guards coming in look pretty good and the Maginualt kid looks promising as well. If he can grab a quality 5 in the offseason like McGee, this squad will be darn good next year.

Honestly SMF as I told King in a post a few days ago, I really have no idea who the "hot" coaches are out there and who would be a good fit here. I understand you and some others wanting to keep Jamie more time, I get it. I just see a program that really became a force in college basketball turn into mush. Even when Pitt was number 1 in the country and a top seed in the tournament we choked over and over, and we aren't anywhere close to that kind of team anymore.

So really SMF, who knows what the right decision is. A few guys on here like to keep reminding me of how many times I have brought up a change in coaching but honestly, I was heated after that crappy performance the other day and I let my feelings be known. Someone replies, I reply, etc... It's not like I am starting "Fire Jamie" threads every other day. In fact, it has been quite a while since I have brought that topic up. But c'mon, trailing 44-16 to a freaking winless acc team at home in the 1st half?? That's on Jamie plain and simple. Last year, lost the last 5 games, collapsed, missed tournament and lost in the NIT 1st round. This season was supposed to be different but how is the team supposed to challenge themselves and get better and understand their weaknesses when Dixon keeps scheduling awful OOC games. It's a joke and attendance has suffered and fan interest has suffered.

Brutal schedule coming up and will be very interested to see what our head coach does to try to rectify the problems.
