Some great posters on this board, true die hard fans, very knowledgeable. Want to find out the vibe of this board here in regards to rooting for ACC schools on the hoops side.. Let me start out here saying I grew up loving the big east, my very first memories of the big east are with the 3 out of 4 schools in the final 4 ('84 I think); the year Nova beat G'town. Also had the Johnnies in there with Memphis state.. Couldn't get enough of the big east.. Watching those hated G'town teams of David Wingate, Michael Jackson, of course later on with Matumbo and Mourning. How great those cuse teams were with The Pearl, COleman, Seikaly, Sherman Douglas, Matt Roe (Not sure why I liked him so much) and then how in the later 80's teams like Seton Hall came on, Nova and UConn etc. Hell, I even remember vaguely Pitino at Providence with Donovan.. Then the 90's how it turned into a very physical league, the 6th foul rule, and then the expansion of the big east and how we seemed to have 10 teams in the top 25..
My point here, and sorry for the run down memory lane, but I loved watching big east hoops and passionately rooted for all big east teams.. Come tourney time, had every big east team advancing in my brackets (surprisingly I never won any of these). I am trying to get there with the ACC, starting too a bit but still not feeling it yet. Case in point, a very highly ranked UVA team dropped two last week, a Clemson team beat up the Cards. Losses that hurt the conference, losses that would have pissed me off if it was big east but not so much here. I think the two premiere teams (duke and unc) I will never be able to root for. When Cuse was in the finals (86, 96- I think) I rooted for them like hell. cant imagine me rooting for the tarheels or blue devils out of conference loyalty..
Anyone feel the same? Different? I love college hoops, really want to root for these teams just cant find it in me to care about the cavaliers, the Seminoles, the demon deacons..
