Eli Holstein, QB
Transferring to: Pitt | Transferring from: AlabamaHT: 6-4 | WT: 237 | Class: Freshman
Background: Holstein was the No. 29 prospect overall in the 2023 class and the No. 5 pocket passer. He signed with Alabama out of Louisiana, and chose the Crimson Tide over offers from LSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Miami, Ohio State and a handful of others. Given the fact that he's a true freshman and quarterback is always a position of need, he should see quite a bit of interest.
How he fits at Pitt: The Panthers had issues at quarterback this past season, cycling through three different players throughout 2023. Christian Veilleux transferred in from Penn State, played in seven games but threw for 1,179 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. Phil Jurkovec got benched and at one point switched positions to tight end after throwing for 818 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions in six games. Nate Yarnell played in four games, mainly in relief duties, and had 595 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. So it's safe to say that the staff needs more competition in the quarterback room and more talent. Holstein was a highly rated prospect out of high school and should up the level of talent for Pitt in the future. Whether he makes an immediate impact or not is yet to be seen, but he should provide help in the future.
