You're seeing more and more of these "re-ranked" class lists which I think is a really good and useful idea. Since nobody has done it for Pitt baskeball, I thought I'd give Dixon's classes a shot. Note: I'm using Rivals data to give their "before" star ranking then my own "after" ranking.

1. 2005
Young, Fields, Biggs, Hudson
All 4's except Hudson (3). I'd say Young and Fields were indeed 4 star players, Biggs a 3, Hudson a 1.

2. 2007
Blair, Wanamaker, McGhee, Diggs, Dodson.
Blair and Wanamaker were 4's. The rest were 3's. I'd say Blair's career was a "5." Wanamaker a 4, McGhee a solid 3. Diggs would be a 1 and Dodson never made it.

3. 2003
Taft, Gray, Graves, Milligan.
I believe Walter Waters was also part of this class but never made it here and we grabbed Graves late. Taft was a 4, the rest were 3's. For Taft and Gray's careers, I'd label them as "4 stars." Graves a "3" and Milligan never made it but had an OK career at UMass.

4. 2008
Gibbs, Nasir, Woodall, Jermaine Dixon, Dwight Miller
All 3 stars except Dixon who wasn't ranked. Gibbs finished out as a 4 with the rest being solid 3's except Miller, who would be a 1 or 2.

5. 2009
Patterson, Zanna, Taylor, Richardson
All 3's except Taylor who was a 5. I'd say Patterson finished out as a 4, Zanna a high 3, with Taylor a low 3 and Richardson a 2.

6. 2013
Young, Artis, Newkirk, Uchebo, Mostella
Young and Mostella were 4's, the rest 3's. I'm going to say that Young will improve to the point where he will live up to the "4 star" ranking. Artis is a 3 right now but could improve. Newkirk was a 2, Uchebo a 1 and Mostella never made it.

7. 2012
Robinson, Jones, Adams
Adams was a 5, Robinson was a 4, Jones a 3. Adams get a 3 because he wasn't here long enough. Robinson also a 3 and Jones a low 3 right now.

8. 2004
Ramon, Benjamin, DeGroat.
All 3 star recruits. Ramon's career was a solid 3 star. Benjamin's was a low 3 star if there is such a thing and DeGroat's is probably a 2.

9. 2006
Gilbert Brown, Austin Wallace.
GB was a 4, Wallace a 3. Brown's career was a solid to high 3, Wallace never had a chance to do anything before the injury.

10. 2010
Wright, Moore, Epps
All 3's. Wright was a solid 3, Moore a low 3 and Epps a 1.

11. 2011
Durand, Birch, John Johnson, Gilbert, Bond
I'd give Durand's career a 2 and that's being nice since he only played 1.5 years out of 4. The rest would even get a 1. Bond is the best of this bunch but he never made it here. Terrible class.

Well done. I could quibble here and there, but nothing substantive. Let's hope the 2013 class continues to rise.

Kind of Puts it into perspective why Pitt isn't looking so hot right now. 2013 we only have 2 guys left and the 2012 class didn't quite work out the way that we hoped. In addition to that we have no real momentum because the 2011 class was a disaster and 10 wasn't much better. Hard to stay relevant with that kind of turnout on recruiting.

Right. Last year's NIT team had players (or lack thereof) from Dixon's worst 2 recruiting classes and also his 5th worst.

Thinking about it that way Dixon has been coaching his ass off. The recruiting side has to get better though, coaching only goes so far.

Yea, I've always believed Dixon is a very good coach. For the life of me, I cant understand how he got that team into March with a shot at the NCAA Tournament last year. I mean, that could've and maybe should've been a 14-17 type of team but we take Dixon's coaching for granted.

I think what this also shows, if you have 2 pretty good recruiting classes in 3 years, the results can be excellent as in two #1 seeds in 3 years, which is Duke/Kansas type of results.

Its funny, just as JD sort of took a step in recruiting, to getting some five starts, the results started to implode.

JRob has been an average starter at best. Past him, Young and Artis, the last four or so classes have been brutal.

The 2007 class was very good. I ranked it #2, but when you bookend it with the #1 class (2005) and the #4 class (2008), you wind up with 2 1 seeds from what was mostly 2 different teams, save for the 07 kids. Jamie & Co. did very well recruiting during that period.
