REAL ID

I live in Delaware and Real ID’s were mandated back in either 2008 or 2009. It was a little bit of a hassle getting the information needed, but it was only one time.

Again, what is wrong with a driver's license or passport?
A passport is fine for domestic travel and entry to federal buildings and offices.
Driver's licenses are either real ID compliant or not. Real ID compliance requires proof of citizenship or legal status and proof of residence.
So you can have a Real ID driver's license, a real ID that is not a driver's license, or a driver's license that is not Real ID compliant.
Or just take your passport!

Honestly I don’t know, i would imagine a passport would be just fine but this seems like a layer of confirmation saying you are who you say you are. I can’t remember 15 years ago but it was a one time thing I showed them a bill with my address and my birth certificate I think and now I don’t need ton worry about it anymore. That’s part of the reason I am for voter ID laws if I had to provide this much info to prove who I am just to drive my car then everyone should have to provide ID to vote.

my buddy got one a few weeks ago, went to the dmv in bridgeville. said the line was out the door. so he picked his number, found a seat and then waited for like 3 hours. sees that he was still a long way away so left, got his kids picked up and came back.

missed his number and had to do it all again lol. was a whole day wasted. of course it was his fault for leaving.

that's why i was cuious about the deadline. but apparently you can get it any time you want. i really wont need one until I fly and i have no flights planned. why else would you need it other than flying or leaving the country? even if you start a new job, a 2nd form of ID like a ss card will suffice..

REAL ID won't work to leave the country. It's only for domestic travel. That's why if you plan on traveling beyond the borders, you'll need a passport anyhow. That can be used for anything....domestic or international travel and entry into federal facilities.

But isn't this all racist? Afterall we have been told and told and told some more that requiring a person to produce a form of photo identification is racist. So....is it or is it not. I am confused by the mixed messages here? You need one to enter a Federal Building, so if I am on trial or relative in a US Court and I don't have a Real ID then I can't go? Racist.

I don't think I would personally say it is racist. And I do detect that you are likely being facetious.
But I am sure that there are many Americans who would struggle trying to complete the requirements for Real ID or a passport. I know that my own brother has difficulty with basic admin like a passport. He can wire and plumb a house, but has trouble doing stuff like finding his birth certificate or ordering an official copy.
Some versions of the voter ID law were complete bullshit too. This was a while ago, but the WV version was requiring a state issued ID, and at that point living overseas I was not eligible for one. They were not accepting military ID or passports, but would accept a WV hunting license! I did point this out to the sponsor of the bill and to his credit they amended it. I explained to him how he would restrict military members and Americans overseas from voting.
Laws like these need to be carefully constructed.

One of the papers needed is a birth certificate. My wife and I had to get copies of our birth certificates to get a passport. We went to the state building in Pittsburgh (which is no longer the state building) filled out the form and got our copies in 10 minutes. There were people in front of us who couldn’t get a copy of their birth certificate because they didn’t know where they were born or their mother’s maiden name. Those people were screaming at the clerk how come they (meaning us) got our birth certificates so fast. Why because we knew our places of birth and our mother’s maiden names. Is that discrimination? No it’s because we have dumb and ignorant people in this country!
