Last night was awful. Pure and simple. But let me ask you, on any given night if someone were to ask you will Pitt win tonight, what do you say? I always say the same thing, it depends on which Pitt shows up and largely how X and Trey play. If they play well, we have a shot at beating pretty much anyone. Last year we couldn't say that.
This is not a feel good post or a rose colored glasses attempt to keep the glass half full. However, Pitt is so inconsistent that they are difficult to predict. But in reality that is a step up from the consistently bad that we have been the past few seasons. I am as impatient as anyone. I want to go to the NCAA's but I also need to realize that it is going to take an influx of talent to get us there. Last season we had maybe 1 or 2 ACC type players. This year is better. Next year will see our overall talent grow. X and Trey couldn't make shots last night, they should have been pulled but we have no one to replace them and more importantly, to even rest them. If you ever played, you know that as the season goes on, tired legs make for poor shooting. I am not saying being tired is their excuse last night but some nights you simply don't have it. In the future it will be nice when we can put someone else in who might have it. Coach Capel is limited, but not as limited as last season and next season he will have more people to work with. Progress has been made. No one can deny that. Nights like last tonight will happen. I, as a Pitt fan simply need to live in the reality that it will probably take another season to be an NCAA team. Probably two more to be a true top 20 team. But it is coming and this year, I hope we make the NIT and make a run. It will be good for the kids and hopefully fun for us. Hail to Pitt!
