This is a game Pitt really needed for national credibility and they emphatically flunked the test. Several issues with this team: not enough scoring balance- Young bears too much of the load and tries to do too much; they still don't have a shooting guard; no physicality; they don't rebound well enough; and the 5 position is still a big hole. James actually played a pretty good game. Artis, Jeter, Smith, Jones and Johnson collectively didn't do much of anything. Back to cupcake city.

Why weren't you at the game del? I'm leaning right now and there were a lot of empty seats available for you.

As far as this team, I still think they are pretty decent.

I'm 400 mikes away, although I do have season tickets. Tuesday evening games with work the next day are a bit of a challenge.

We fell way behind a good team and scratched back to briefly take the lead.
Purdue's counter punch was Better than we could handle.

Dixon made plenty of strategy and personnel mistakes during that last Purdue run...but they just executed .

You couldn't make an exception for this one? After all, you only whine about who is on the schedule, but don't go to the games anyways???

PS-After what we did for a decade, pretty decent doesn't cut it!

If Artis has an average game, the result tonight would've been close to the pickem the bookies set the line at.

But Artis picked a bad night to suck.

When you contribute what I do to Pitt, son, then you can open your trap-until then shine your bobbleheads.

This was a great game, contrasting styles, big stage, and lots of strategy. Painter finally found one of his shooters to pull Pitt out of the zone or else you would have won. Pitt will win a bunch of games this year with the athleticism. It is really amazing. Good Luck!

I would say not only is tonight's result disappointing but frankly that's a word to describe this program.
I just cannot get excited about a team where the goal is to just make the NCAAT. That's too low a bar for where this program was.

A loss is usually disappointing.

Serious thought....with our depth, size, athleticism, but not the best set defenders and jumpshooters, why not press? Why not go more pressure defenses to create turnovers and easy layups? Especially with the athletic length we can put out there, it could be difficult to throw over the top and cross court against us.

Agreed - use our depth to cause some turnovers and wear down their bigs.

Right now, he's "serviceable" at best

Pitt played a good game last night. They were much more competative than I expected. Purdue gave your team a hard gut punch at the start of the game, and it didn't phase your guys. They fought back and never gave up. I came away impressed with your team:
  • Deep bench with little fall off of perfromance
  • Good coaching. There was a considerable chess game going on between coaches. It was cool to watch.
  • Gritty team. Never gave up and fought all game.
I think in the end, your team was gassed. Purdue is very deep and talented. Our bigs simply wear out our opponents. Even though gassed, Pitt kept fighting.

Good luck the rest of the way, and make some noise in the ACC. You are good enoough to do so!

If we have such a deep bench, why were we so gassed at the end? Your bench outscored ours by something like 3 to 1. The last time they showed it on TV, your bench had 30 points, ours had 12. Then, Cline hit another 3, so your bench contributed at least 33 points.

We play a lot of people, but most of them are marginal at best. You guys have talent coming off your bench; we just have minutes and airballs.

They have a future NBA player coming off the bench. How many teams can say that? A handful probably.

Mike, I have no idea why Haas started over Hammonds. He looked just awful, really slow reactions, no hustle. Hammonds would start for 99% of the teams in Div. 1. Cline looks like the kind of kid that Brey/K/Bo Ryan always have. Nice sniper, I'd love to have him.

But some our more sdsappointing than others because there's more at stake-last night was one of those games. We're struggling for recognition. Winning last night would have given us that. Now it's back to obscurity until conference play.
