2. Both have a classic, recognizable, 4-character script logos.
3. Both schools are best known academically for their medical schools.
4. Both schools are usually better than their in-state rival at basketball, but usually worse at football.
5. Both play in off-campus stadiums that average about 25,000 empty seats per game. (Pitt averaged 46k in 68k Heinz in 2016, UCLA averaged 67k in 92k Rose Bowl in 2016).
6. Pitt has had 6 coaches in 22 years, UCLA has had 5 coaches in 23 years.
7. Both schools have had exactly 1 Heisman winner.
8. Pitt's bowl record is 13-19, UCLA's is 16-18-1
9. Pitt's all-time record is 712-521-42 (.575), UCLA's is 577-399-37 (.588)
10. Pitt has had 51 Consensus All-Americans in 127 seasons, UCLA has had 39 in 98 seasons.
11. Pitt has played in one premier bowl game in 20 years (2005 Fiesta). UCLA has played in one premier bowl game in 20 years (1998 Rose).
12. Pitt's record this century is 117-87. UCLA's record this century is 114-91.
13. Both schools have played in 15 bowl games in the past 20 seasons. Pitt is 5-10, UCLA is 6-9.
14. Both teams have ended the season ranked in the Top 25 exactly 3 times in this century. (Pitt in '02, '04, and '09.... UCLA in '05, '13', and '14).

cept for cheerleaders where UCLA is a perennial top ten program......

no, I am not. USC is a perennial top three program with multiple national championships.

I could google pretty easily to back it up but perennial implies pretty much every year and I can't remember the last time UCLA finished in the top 10 once let alone multiple times

Interesting post. Thanks for sharing it. It seems like UCLA fans are more subdued about their place in the College football world. Maybe its the sunshine and weed? Maybe its the massive number of college sports championships in other sports?

If you do an analysis with most P5 programs, you'll find Pitt isn't as horrible as our fans make them, especially in the past 2 decades.

There are only a handful of programs that are "Top 10" on a regular basis in football. The vast majority are like Pitt. Some will have higher highs, but they will also have lower lows. But on average, most programs are like Pitt.

a very large % of their student body doesn't give a shit about college athletics. they are studying. Look it up .

Interesting post; nice research. Speaking of nice research, UCLA and USC cheerleaders. There's nothing more perfect than a USC Cheerleader

You learn to be quiet when the enemy is is your neighborhood, as opposed to 140 miles away.

dude, I was talking about hot cheerleaders...google away.
Nothing is better than seeing the USC cheerleaders, when they are in their traditional outfit of sweaters, and pleated miniskirts.Other than the fact that they don't wear saddle shoes anymore, the look is pretty much the same as it was 50 years ago. Classic!!!

You'll also find Pitt isn't as good as some fans claim when they point to a 10-year stretch before anyone relevant was born.

before anyone relevant was born...hahaha....millennials...cute. Can't name the three branches of government but can label us old timers irrelevant.

Do you plan on rolling out of the stands to suit up for the team? How's your eligibility look?

I have to concur about the USC cheerleaders, but the Pitt cheerleaders have upped their game considerably lately. Both in uniforms, and in 4 and 5 star talent.

Wow. I thought that there were similarities but did not know that we were really that similar. I can add one more. Both schools merely dabble in football. Not real serious, and not willing to pay alot for coaches.

Fabulous! They've obviously copied the USC Song Girls, but so what. Nothing wrong with copying perfection. Don't know who made the decision, but I'm tipping my hat to them. Most squads have adopted a stripper look. This look is classic, and sexy as hell. Bravo Pitt!

UCLA's blue color is called True Blue
Pitt doesn't know what it's blue is.

And UCLA is in Westwood in LA , not cramped around a slum in Oakland in Pgh.

In other words there is NO COMPARISON

If you think the area where Pitt is located is a "slum", you haven't been there in 3 decades.

Southern Cal is right next to South Central as Pitt is to South Oakland lol.

You go down much South from the Coliseum and so much student living is in South Central.

One of the richest schools in the Country (Pitt is just half the enrollment size too USC is huge, as is UCLA) --- but it's eerily similar off-campus living there.

Not talking about USC the post was about Ucla get it.
But since you brought it up there is no comparison with Pitt's campus v USC....
None

how about last month.
Ok not slum; the area around or surrounding Pitts buildings is significantly a dump.

Whoaaa ---
raw

Talking about the two LA Schools --- You ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING then you know UCLA is in the Pristine Westwood, North Western-most LA right by Bel Air and such with an almost isolated campus -- -but they have to go 25 miles accross that Cross Town Traffic to get to their stadium.

Southern Cal is right by Downtown / South Central / Koreatown etc. and is total URBAN CAMPUS --- I.E. much more directly related to Pitt.

South Central is literally where the off-campus housing is. Nice try on trying to Deliver a Strong Point though, but wiffed lol.

.... I've MORE THAN , "Been There" lol at UCLA and USC --- and I love Pitt.

I was only there for 4 years, and hung-around for one more year because I truly LOVED Pittsburgh, the people, the Energy....

No point arguing (and to be frank, the Comments-to-Likes ratio shows that) --- but you are Incorrect. You are Wrong.

Pitt is unique and wonderful. And, "They "smoke" Pitt" comment is honestly worthless, and nonsense. :)

Well I don't care about how much Money anyone donates (I try my Best, but I ain't Warren Buffet, Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg I know that) --- or how much one spends on tickets / anything --->

I just know that I went to the University of Pittsburgh on a "Random Visit", and I just fell In-Love with that City (albeit a "Smaller One") University. No-where else to felt like home, BUT for me, Pitt was Home.

I don't care about USC (have a soft-spot for UCLA tho, much more "Blue Collar" Alums a la Pitt) / Texas @Austin / Alabama in Tuscaloosa (been all those places, great 'n all) but I want Pitt to succeed, and for the Football Program to become Powerful and make Panthers proud ---> and draw as much possible National Attention to Pitt and what a wonderful place (I know it to be!) it is.

Hail to Pitt :) --- That is my Sole Point.
