Reggie Jackson - Great History Lesson

Wow. Powerful. Thanks for sharing.

I think it is important to note that this happened in many of our lifetimes. This wasn't our grandparents and great parents eras. In the grand scheme of world history - this is recent stuff. And important stuff to learn lest we repeat the sins of our past.

Yeah...I am also glad that the original over the air feed did not censor Reggie. Powerful message and you could feel it still pained him

I remember seeing Reggie during his later playing days and then on TV after his career was over. It never crossed my mind that he had to endure these things, but his story really brings things into perspective.

As kids, we had no idea.

I'm going to share this with my daughter. The history lesson is important but more than that, hearing Reggie talk about how his teammates stood by him and supported him is an important lesson for young athletes. You wonder why a school like Pitt talks about culture and hear this kind of story. Edit: Pitt has it's own similar story with Bobby Grier and the Sugar Bowl. You can't always appreciate what someone is going through on your team but if you want to win, you at least have to respect each other and if the opportunity presents itself, be there for that teammate. Great stuff.

That's why I hate when people state that so and so is the greatest of all time - these players of today have no idea of what it took just to survive, let alone excel in the sport they participated in. To be at the top of your athletic/sport profession back then meant you were not only a great player - it meant you were one strong SOB.
