The eyes of the college basketball world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of Pitt-loving people everywhere are with you.

The task will not be an easy one. The enemy is well-trained, well-equipped and will cheat savagely.

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion, and skill in this recruiting battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory and a return to the NCAA Tournament!

Don't get your hopes up, it will be another typical recruit who loved the Zoom call with Pitt, Loves the coaching staff and goes else. The writers trying to get clicks

Yep. Beginning of the end for Capel. Heather better have a list in her pocket.

Pitino would be a Home Run.

Me too. Just saying though. Tomorrow is as big of a day for Pitt fans and Capel as June 6, 1944 was for Western Civilization. If Capel is not successful tomorrow, we will be looking for a new coach in March 2022 or 23.

The hype around this recruitment has been wildly over the top.

He’s a great prospect with some real nice skills, but he’s not a day 1 program changing kid. If he commits to Pitt, that’s absolutely fantastic but there would still be MUCH work to do. Conversely, losing out doesn’t mean, by itself, the world is ending or that “a bag was dropped” or any of the other nonsense that gets thrown around. This program has some fundamental issues that one kid, short of a super prospect like Bates, Zion, Cunningham, etc., will not fix on day one.

I doubt there will be a sensible reaction to this no matter the outcome, but it would be nice if we could find some perspective

You couldn't be more wrong. Getting Reid means Champagnie comes back to Pitt instead of transferring if he pulls out of the NBA Draft. He isnt coming back to play on a terrible team.

Reid+Champagnie+Femi = bubble

No Reid + No Champagnie = 3-17 and looking for a new HC either next year or the year after.

A legit 5, even if he's not outstanding, is a team-changing player. Had we had Talib Zanna or Gary McGhee the last 2 years, we probably make the NCAAT

Including Reid and Femi with Champagnie is incredibly ambitious. That’s a freshman who hasn’t played one day of CBB and an intriguing, but still hardly proven young guard.

Young bigs notoriously take time to develop, even talented ones. Reid isn’t a ready-made superstar. He, like most bigs, is projectable with some highly intriguing skills. You just can’t expect a freshman big to be a cornerstone player day 1.

This would be a nice sign for the program that they can still play for top talent and give us an opportunity to build a good foundation but you really have temper expectations beyond that.

You’re completely off on Reid. He’s exactly what you want in a college big. Legit 7 footer with an advanced offensive game. He 100% steps onto campus and is an impact player. He’ll average something like 13 and 8 next year if he’s at Pitt.

Think Hunter Dickinson. Not Steven Adams.

I remember when we were in on Hunter Dickinson.

Hunter Dickinson had the benefit of an outstanding team around him. Even if you assume Champagnie comes back, the chances that we can put together an environment to support a big like Dickinson had at Michigan, Timme at Gonzaga, Greg Brown at Texas, etc. is slim.

Bigs are not sure things. These are kids who are still growing into their bodies and are also stepping up from a level where, generally, they dominate based off of their superior size. Reid is an outstanding prospect but that’s exactly what he is, a prospect.

You can just keep saying that but I’m telling you Reid is going to be an impact player from Day 1 wherever he goes. Bigs usually take time to develop because they are raw and rated based on potential and athletic ability.

Reid is the opposite. He doesn’t have the athleticism to give him a high NBA potential, but he’s skilled offensively and will be a force from Day 1.

Either way wouldn’t we all just love to find out!

I’ll happily eat crow on this one if he pops off immediately, I just tend to always exercise patience on bigs no matter the pedigree. Even with AAU ball spreading like it has, it’s so hard for these guys to get legit competition before they get on campus. Hopefully this goes our way and we get the opportunity to see how it goes.

Life will continue, but tomorrow truly is a big day for Pitt basketball, no matter how this decision goes.

I get your m.o. is loud stupid proclamations

but take a break
No recruit is make or break
It doesn’t matter
The record does
This one is because without him:

- Champagnie isnt coming back to Pitt
- we arent getting any quality transfers

A blue-chip recruit not only makes the team better, it enables Capel to sell the possibility of making the NCAAT, of being "the missing piece." Without him, we are Boston College again.

Justin coming back has nothing to do with Reid
It has to do with his draft status , full stop
If you think Reid is worth 7 additional acc wins -
Hit yourself in the forehead with a hammer until the pain stops

He isn't coming back TO PITT if we suck. Reid gives the team a chance to not suck. Obviously he isnt coming back regardless if he's going to go mid 2nd Round or better.

it's strange to me that vader, ialwaysknow, and BBinsider have been so quiet on "Reid Week". Do they vacation together or something?

They have 2 incoming Centers in this class and 2 more on the current roster. That includes Koprivica going to the pros. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but it makes no sense.
Their not in his league. He will start and get minutes. Sounds like it’s a done deal. How this happens I don’t know. Came in last few days it sounds like. So disappointing

3-17 coming right up!

Heather, get the list ready. Actually, I will do the work for you: Pitino
