ReiD-Day

Justin coming back has nothing to do with Reid
It has to do with his draft status , full stop
If you think Reid is worth 7 additional acc wins -
Hit yourself in the forehead with a hammer until the pain stops
so how many wins is the current roster worth there skip?

The kid hasn’t even picked and I see the chorus of “they cheated!” or “someone dropped a bag!” has already started.

The program is not in a good place. You can concoct all the wild “Blue Chips” theories about gym bags with cash that you want, but until we see fundamental change in how this program is being built, I don’t think we’re really going to be players on the level that it takes to get top tier guys.

I can't even think of a reason to watch next year. Call me a bandwagon fan or whatever but people need a reason to tune in. At least 3 years ago we had a Process Sixers vibe where we could watch a bunch of guys with potentially high ceilings grow into the game. Now we have, what, 3 players total that might be ready to play in the ACC? We're headed in a scary direction. The Pete might be really empty next year.

I’m a basketball junkie so I’ll always watch, but it’s been a disheartening trend to see occur.

It’s not necessarily a fair comparison, but Villanova is truly the standard as far as program building right now. They identify their “guys” and usually rarely have to get on a plane to go get them as they recruit their turf so well. They get their share of big time kids of course, but they also do a heck of job identifying under the radar guys and have no issue on bringing them in over more hyped recruits. That’s where we need to get to. Obviously getting to Nova’s level is ambitious, but that type of culture/approach isn’t far fetched.

I agree with you. I think that we need a style, a brand. Something that aligns with our identity as a school and the types of kids we are able to recruit.

Jamie's identity was pulling hard-nosed defense first players out of NYC and coaching them up. It worked very well for awhile. I can't tell you what Capel's approach seems to be. He's clearly aiming way above the caliber (on paper anyway) of recruit we seem to be able to reasonably pull. I think that approach has now proven itself a failure, assuming Reid is going to FSU, and he needs to switch things up.

There needs to be some real soul searching going on in the Pete. We're spending too much on the return we're getting. I get that you don't want to offer a class full of players that don't project to the next level. I get it. But the answer isn't to be so selective that you don't have anyone at all. Giving Capel the benefit of the doubt that "he's only going after his players" or that we should trust him, given the returns so far over a growing sample size, is verging on the edge of lunacy at this point.

I’ll watch for the same reason I always watch
I root for the laundry

I thought we might have an identity under Capel with our first three recruits. Basically we were doing what most successful programs do; you get athletes who can attack the rim, play good perimeter defense and switch on screens, get up and down the floor.

But it's mostly been pretty ugly since, which is frustrating both as Pitt fan and somewhat who likes Capel too. And no it isn't much of an identity after all, we're a generic mediocre team and will remain so unless we land a few major recruits like Reid and have some more unity in the locker room.

I respect that. I'm just at the point in my life where I have so many competing obligations that committing to every game is impossible unless they're either a contender or at least making progress.

I watched every game from Capel's 1st through this year. I just feel like we've gone backwards from 2018-2019.

I’ll let you know when we have our roster by game 1
how about the current roster? or tge roster the last 3 years.

you citing the "i have a goldfish memory" defense

can you answer those questions or just continue to deflect?

Seems kind of odd if this was such a done deal that Capel is still following him. In addition, when one insider crystal balls him you usually see others follow. This is not the case after Shaw changed his mind. May be more wishful thinking on my part!

They have 2 incoming Centers in this class and another on the current roster. That includes Koprivica going to the pros. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but it makes no sense.
FSU has a few “stiffs” if you pardon my phrasing at center. Big bodies can get a few rebounds and give some fouls. With Balsa leaving, center will be wide open. Butler the 7 foot freshman and he’ll likely play the 4 at under 200lbs. Reid could easily start at center.

Best of luck. Hope Jamie is right but who knows🤷‍♂️

Let me get this straight, Reid still has not announced his commitment? There was a Twitter user claiming he committed to Florida State a few hours ago, thought it was over.

I guess we’re still in it then!
