1) Sean Miller is a coach of some repute, an alum and from here.
2) Sean Miller has a big time job he is not leaving for Pitt.
3) Meaning Sean Miller is not, was not a real candidate.
4) Yesteday's fiasco had nothing to do with Pitt and Sean Miller. It was some misguided sources and media exuberance. So....let's not act like now everyone has turned Pitt down.
5) Archie Miller is Sean's brother, who didn't go here, don't want to come here.
6) We have no idea who's on Barnes list. What we should all know is:
a) Pitt is in the ACC, which makes it a great job.
b) Pitt CAN pay well as we know with Jamie Dixon
c) You can win here, as evidenced by 2 #1 NCAA Tourney seeds in 3 years, with completely different casts
d) Scott Barnes has a hoops background
e) Scott Barnes was on the NCAA Tourney committee and has lots of contacts
7) A candidate list by a writer is meaningless. Good list, bad list, it is meaning less and not worth sweating over
8) I think what we see in football, Barnes and Chambers are a bit more aggressive in trying to get a winner.
9) Pitt is not Duke or UNC
10) It has been a little over 24 hours.

Most here don't have the stomachs for coaching searches. Remember the consternation for the football search? How many wanted to just give it to Rudolph and be done with it? Your post, owt, is spot on. Although check out Zeise's blog; makes some very valid points that Arizona/Miller thinks more highly of itself than their record would indicate (same number of final four appearances as Kansas State and Wisconsin to name one measure).

Just because Sean Miller has a big time job isn't reason enough to make me think he wouldn't come to Pitt. I bet he would give it serious consideration if the money was right. If the calls have already been made and Miller has closed the door on coming back, that tells me Pitt probably isn't going to pay any more than $2 to $3 mil for a coach.

No sense in stressing about it. We are powerless to do anything about it or to influence the process. Barnes will be happy to have his guy in there ( just like any/most AD's) and we'll see who he is able to land.

Maybe. You are right to a point I would think. Hell, I would think the Grand Poobah of them all would seriously consider this job if the money is right. You know the name. He coached here. He is from here. He has previously expressed interest here. What sets Pitt apart from other big time programs in football, there is no overzealous uber rich booster to "write the check", like I know happened at WVU to bring Huggins back.

No - just the Chicken Littles that are running around at that moment. Apathy is the worst fanbase u can have. We had 12,500 strong for a good period of time because we have a good team that played hard and won.

All I'm saying, and this isn't specifically directed at the Millers, is that if you want to hire a proven winner that has some job security from another school, expect to overpay. Obviously, it seems the Millers have an axe to grind with Pitt. Or at least their old man really doesn't want to see them at Pitt. So I don't know if they have a price.

Which is entirely the opposite of what you said. You said if he isn't interested, it is because Pitt isn't paying enough. Barnes seems like the kind of guy who would be more than willing to overpay for someone of that caliber, and Miller found it necessary to blast it to the world that he had zero interest.

Yes. Well, after reading the old man's comments, I changed my mind. I don't think too many people would hold a grudge for 30+ years, but obviously he must be one of them. I totally understand Sean releasing his statement. There were reports out there that he was being interviewed and had a 50/50 chance of accepting. The crap about Archie waiting for something better... that was insulting.
