Pitt currently has 14 commits in the class. Assuming that we finish with roughly 18 recruits, how would you allocate the remaining 4 scholarships?

My own preference:

(1) LB (preferably a MLB)

(1) OL

(2) WR

1 or 2 OL or DL (either one but OL bigger need)
1 legitimate WR
1 hybrid athlete safety or star linebacker type

Hard to project positions for a lot of athletic kids, which is what we need.

I wouldn't quibble about position needs; but, why only a class of 17 or 18 (3-4 more recruits)?

With the two guys recently declaring for the draft--I was thinking they might have room now to make it 19 or 20 (5-6 more recruits) by LOI day.

I'm fine with overrecruiting within reason too. Didn't do the math. Also honestly I wonder if I should just change my answer to Best Player Available. Good football players will find a spot somewhere on the field.

Bingo!
I forget which legendary coach said he'll take good athletes, 4 or 5 star players, and he'll find a spot for them!

After saying that we need an impact LB or two. You can build a great defense around a great LB or two!

A reporter once asked Bear Bryant if he was concerned about some RB on the opponents offense and how would he coach against the RB.

Bear looked at the reported and said " LeRoy will get him if he says on the field " referring to Leroy Jordan. A great LB!

Before any position switches, but assuming O'Neill is gone and heard Malik Henderson is gone although nothing official?:

QB (3) - Pickett (So), DiNucci (Ju), Patti (Fr)
RB (4) - Hall (Sr), Ollison (Sr), Davis (So), Sibley (Fr)
FB (1) - Aston (Sr)
TE (5) - Clark (Ju), Sear (So), Reeves (Fr), Carrigan (Fr), Alaimo (Fr)
WR (4) - Matthews (Ju), Flowers (So), Smith (Fr), Street (Fr)
WR (5) - Tipton (Ju), Lopes (Sr), Ffrench (Ju), Butler (Fr), O'Neil (Fr)
OT (3) - Brown (So), Warren (Fr), Zubovic (Fr)

OG (3) - Ford (Fr), Houy (Fr), Kradel (Fr)
OG (3) - Bookser (Sr), Hargrove (Fr), Herndon (Sr)
C (3) - Morrissey (So), Drexel (Fr), Dintino (Sr)

DE (5) - Hendrix (Sr), Folston (Sr), Alexandre (Fr), Van Lynn (Fr)
DE (4) - Weaver (So), Jones (So), Pugh (So), Morgan (Fr), Palmer (Fr)

S (3) - Hamlin (Jr), Garner (So), Stocker (Ju)
S (3) - Ford (Fr), Campbell (So), Briggs (Sr)

CB (3) - Pinnock (So), Motley (Sr), Coleman (So)

P (1) - Christodoulou (Fr)
K (1) - Kessman (So)

This puts Pitt at 83 ships leaving 2 open.
Position breakdown:
QB - 3 on ship with a walk-on seems fine to me
RB - would like to see 1 more for depth/practice reasons
WR - too much talent to turn the guys they are after away. take 2
TE - fine
OT - would like another experienced one, lotta youth
OG - fine
OC - fine
DE - fine
DT - fine
LB - lotta bodies, lacking talent. no more needed
S - would like to see 1
CB - would like to see 1
Kickers - fine

I would add 1 RB, 2 WR's, 1 OT, 2 DB's..so 6 more for a class of 20.

Gotta see 4 go then:
Dintino and J Williams seem obvious to me.
McKee, Pilato are probably frustrated
Flowers and Carter are 2 talented I can see leaving because they were recruited over.

Position moves I want to see:
Carrigan to OT
Miller back to Safety

Sarge, very good analysis. You probably are not very far off on what Narduzzi and the other coaches are thinking. I would say however that we need a RB with some speed to get to the outside. Anyone that watched the Steelers Ravens game on Sunday would recognize what I'm referring to if they watched Ravens RB Collins get to the outside with both speed and power on several occasions.
