I don't have a rooting interest in this game but I'm fired up for it...for 2 reasons:

1. Starving for some college football

2. Big rivals

If this was next week, I'd be at the Pitt game or if it was an afternoon game, flipping between the other 45 televised games.

This is why I say the NCAA should allow an exemption for a Week 0 game if you schedule a designated rival, which would have to meet some criteria test so teams dont take advantage of it to schedule another FCS or G5 scrimmage.

Start the season kinda like Bowl Week with games Friday night, all day Saturday, all day Sunday, Monday night, Tuesday night, and Wednesday night. Then Thursday would be your regular Week 1 games.

Yeah, more football games is good. It’s not complicated. High school football, people want games over scrimmages. College football, games over fcs exhibition games.

Nfl will soon realize 4 preseason games is garbage and will play 18 regular games. Fans want football, players want to play in games. No one cares about exhibition games or scrimmages.

It’s not rocket science.

The NFLPA will never allow 18 games but yea. As for college football, this is such a dead period in sports. It only makes sense.

These could be the potential Week 0 games:

Pitt/Penn State
BC/UConn or UMass
Syracuse/Rutgers
Louisville/Kentucky
ND/Michigan
VT/Tennessee
UVa/Maryland
UNC/NCSU/Duke/Wake vs ECU/Charlotte/App St
Clemson/Auburn
Alabama/FSU
Florida/Miami
GT/Georgia State (unless they moved up their UGa game)
WVU/Marshall
Ohio State/Cincy

etc

I think 18 games could be simple in the NFL. Eliminate two preseason games. Eliminate the bye week. In the 18 game regular season mandate that no player can dress for more than 16 games. This even reduces the overall length of the season by one week. The coaches would hate it because then they would have to make decisions about who to sit out for each game, but otherwise I’m not sure why anybody would be strongly against doing this.
