NOTE: Reposting this, because the other thread somehow got highjacked by a SMF pissing match with others over who is the biggest Pitt fan, and has now descended into a politics.
If all these games go as we wish.... Pitt can be up to as high as 11th or 12th next week going into the ACC title game. There are 7 teams ahead of us in the rankings that are either underdogs or less than a TD favorite.
Tuesday, 7:00pm
Western Michigan (-3.5) over Northern Illinois
Reason: Obvious.
Thursday, 7:30pm
Mississippi State (-1) over Ole Miss
Reason: Pitt can jump over Ole Miss
Friday, Noon
Boise State (-2.5) over San Diego State
Reason: San Diego State is right next to Pitt in the rankings. Get them out of there.
Friday, 1:30pm
Nebraska (-3.5) over Iowa
Reason: The fact that 3-8 Nebraska is a 3-point favorite over 9-2 Iowa is a major indictment of Iowa's ranking. They don't belong where they're ranked. Let's hope Vegas is right and Nebraska wins and knocks Iowa out of the rankings and out from ahead of Pitt.
Friday, 3:30pm
East Carolina (+13.5) over Cincinnati
Reason: East Carolina is a sneaky good team. And this game is at East Carolina. I think this line is too high and that Cincinnati will struggle to win. I hope Cincinnati loses, because I want the fraudcats exposed.
Friday, 4:00pm
Colorado (+24) over Utah
Reason: Pitt will either be right behind or right ahead of Utah when the rankings come out tomorrow. Root for the upset.
Friday, 7:00pm
NC State (-6.5) over UNC
Reason: If you want to avoid facing Clemson in the ACC title game, then root for the Wolfpack. An NC State win eliminates Clemson from winning the Atlantic Division. Plus, it keeps another ACC team in the rankings. Plus it relegates UNC to a lower tier bowl at 6-6 (which is always a good thing).
Saturday, Noon
Michigan (+8) over Ohio State
Reason: Somebody has to win this game, we don't get to root for a meteor to hit the Big House and take out both teams. So root for Michigan. It eliminates Ohio State from the Playoffs, and then Michigan can get beat by Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship to eliminate them... and the Big Ten... from the playoffs.
Wake Forest (-5) over Boston College
Reason: If you want to face Wake Forest in the ACC title game, root for the Deacs. Plus, it keeps another ACC Team ranked.
Texas Tech (+14) over Baylor
Reason: Baylor is a team Pitt can jump in the rankings.
Florida State (+2) over Florida
Reason: Always root for the ACC over the SEC. Plus, gets another ACC team bowl eligible.
Saturday, 12:30pm
Duke (+21) over Miami
Reason: Because f*** Miami, that's why. Send Cutliffe out on a win... send Diaz out on a loss.
Saturday, 2:00pm
North Texas (+12) over UTSA
Reason: UTSA is unjustly ranked. Get them out.
Saturday, 3:30pm
Auburn (+19.5) over Alabama
Reason: Eliminate Alabama from any consideration for the playoffs if they lose the SEC title game.
Oregon State (+7) over Oregon
Reason: An Oregon loss makes the PAC 12 title game.... Utah vs Oregon State. It eliminates Nike U. from the Rose Bowl and likely behind Pitt in the rankings.
Michigan State (pick em) over Penn State
Reason: Knock PSU to 7-5 and something like the Pinstripe Bowl. Don't let them sneak back in the rankings. And f*** Penn State anyway.
Saturday, 3:45pm
Virginia Tech (+7.5) over Virginia
Reason: Gets another ACC team bowl eligible, and f*** Mendenhall anyway.
Saturday, 4:00pm
Minnesota (+6.5) over Wisconsin
Reason: It would be neat if Pitt could jump over Wisconsin. However, I might rethink this one... because I think Wisconsin has a better chance of beating OSU/Mich in the Big Ten title game than Minnesota or Iowa does.
Saturday, 7:00pm
LSU (+6.5) over Texas A&M
Reason: A&M is another team Pitt can jump over.
Kansas (+15) over WVU
Reason: Deny the hoopies bowl eligibility.
Saturday, 7:30pm
Oklahoma State (-3.5) over Oklahoma
Reason: Oklahoma can potentially be jumped over by Pitt with a loss.
Louisville (-2.5) over Kentucky
Reason: Always root for an ACC team over an SEC team.
Clemson (-11.5) over South Carolina
Reason: Always root for an ACC team over an SEC team. Plus, keeps Clemson ranked and makes Pitt's win over them look even better. And has no bearing on ACC standings.
Saturday, 8:00pm
Stanford (+17.5) over Notre Dame
Reason: Because f*** Notre Dame. And keeps Notre Dame out of the playoffs.
Saturday, 10:30pm
USC (+7) over BYU
Reason: BYU is another team Pitt can jump over.
