Rewatching the Iowa-Pitt game last year, we had the worst offense ever last year

-Jim Chaney was a complete idiot, this entire game and all season. We have the ball tied 17-17 at the Iowa 30, its 4th and 1 inch, and we try to draw them offside then punt only to let them get a TD. This was like the Miami debacle 2.0.

-Christ this guy sucked ass as an offensive coach. Thanks to God we have running backs that can gain 1 inch on 3rd and 4th down and the confidence to do it.

-What a complete imbecile Jim Chaney is. Horrible. Its disgraceful to anyone that rewatched it. I can only laugh at Georgia for hiring this clown, but you will be firing him soon enough . He completely sucks.

The funny thing is that steel's ridiculous feelings about Chaney have lead him to blame him for something he almost certainly had nothing at all to do with.

Show of hands, who thinks it's the offensive coordinator who decides whether a team goes for it on fourth down or not? If you have your hand up you are clueless and ought to not comment on the matter lest you expose your ignorance.

Imo I never really cared for Chaney. I knew he wasn't going to stay long given his track record and he wasn't a "Narduzzi Guy." From what I've gathered (most of you probably know this anyways), Narduzzi struck out on his first few guys and Chaney was the fallback option. I feel much more confident with Canada this year.

I was never a Chaney fan, but I must concur: the decision of whether to go for it on a fourth 'n inches situation comes from the top and not the OC.

In fact, I've been told that some teams have a "situation board" where those kinds of decisions are made (and written down) before the game when heads are clear so that game emotions don't enter into it.

Steel, we will know how good Chaney is by his work at UGA, but it is time to let it all go from last year. Narduzzi himself said he made the call that allow the Iowa kicker to get a second chance at Kicking a Second Longest Field Goal in Iowa Football History?

It was just New Pitt's Coach Narduzzi 3rd Game as a Head Coach and he still wanted Chaney to stay this year, but he left anyway. Chaney also brought in Peterman and Hendrix from UTenn.

I remember driving in from Cleveland and listening on the that game, and it was just another close game Pitt lost in the last second and much of Pitt History is full of that too, especially the last 19 Years.

You have a great perspective on Pitt Football that I enjoy reading and this coming season is far more important now, and keep up the predictions and call them as you see them.

I think most Posters agree with you and have said so many times before, but watching that old game again and again won't change the score. Iowa Ferentz had a Great Year too, missing the NCS Playoffs by one late TD by MSU?

Pitt actually played better against Big Ten Top 5 Team than Penn State did last year against Five Big Ten's Top 25 Teams?

Chaney is gone and "OH CANADA" is the new OC and he like Narduzsi wanted to come, be, and stay at Pitt and got fired on purpose to make Pitt Is It his designation, unlike Chaney wanting to see the lights go out in georgia?

What are you expecting from him this year and against Penn State, OKSU, and UNC, because those games are going to define this 2016 Team??? As well as , what UGA may do this season with Chaney as OC?

I ask because i have no clue and depend on you and others that know more and say so with your percolation's of Pitt Passion and insights!:p:D:cool::rolleyes:

I don't agree. I think narduzzi learned a few things last year and Iowa showed me a lot. We were down, came back and lost on an insane kick. Additionally in future games (Syracuse) he went for it on 4th and short.
Good point, I remember Coach Pat admitting he made mistakes in his 3rd game and posted the Link that showed it. As an example of a Head Coach taking responsibility on losing a close game, unlike that fellow that blamed his Assistants last year and they left him?

I also agree that Call and the Kick Call defined Coach Pat Narduzzi "Fortune Follows The Bold Calls" that help win UVA, VT, GT, ULou and Cuse close games?

Pitt could have 5-7, 6-6, and 7-5 with those Calls going south, and just missed coming back on UNC, Miami and Iowa were close losses and could have been 11-2?

I like the board idea. If thats the case it should say never Punt from inside the other teams 40 on 4th and less than a yard unless you are up big in the forth quarter.
If you are on their side of the 50, you should NEVER punt on 4th and 2 or less.. If it's 4th and under 1, no brainer.. Nothing more frustrating than punting on the other team's 40 and your punter boots it thru the end zone..

It's a mental thing to, has to be demoralizing for a defense, you hold them to a 4th down and boom, another 4 downs. Plus, the advantage is yours because most of their D is on line so not too hard to break one, very susceptible to a play action..

I don't disagree that maybe Pitt should have gone for it because in hind-sight, the outcome of failing is the same. But given that Pitt had essentially figured out how to stop Iowa for most of the third quarter and that Darrin Hall was having zero success running the ball (especially on third and short) punting was the highest percentage call in that situation.

The interception in the end zone in the first half was probably a bigger offensive failure given that Pitt managed one yard on first and second down, then forced pass into the end zone on third. A field goal ties the game there when neither team was really doing much on offense.

-Yea, Chaney decided to pretty much bench Ollison (4 carries total vs Iowa), who had 300 yards rushing his prior 2 games as a freshmen for Hall, who averaged 2.6 yards per carry against Iowa.

-So we know in at least 2 losses, Miami and Iowa last year, Pitt had the ball inside the 5 yard line and couldnt score. Pitt loses one game by 3 points, and another by 5 points.

-I wonder what we do this year when we have less than 5 yards to go to get a TD inside the opponent 5? Anyone should be able to figure out Conner and Ollison get the ball 4 times in a row.

Hoping we throw the ball a little better too.

Not a Chaney fan, but you sound like a fool, blaming him for not going for it on 4th and inch.

That's all on the HC. Narduzzi is the one to blame for that cowardly and ridiculous decision

With the exception Wisky 10-6 Loss & MSU 16-13 Win, Pitt gave Iowa just as good games if not better one can argue too.

Only Stanford in the Bowl Game ran over them!

Seems like the OP hasn't been a Pitt fan for very long (not even a decade) if he thinks this was even close to the worst offense ever.
