Will be confirmed soon.
Odom to VCU will be done before the ink dries on Rhoads contract today. He’s positioning himself for the next ACC jobNot a Rhoades fan. Not a fan of "caretaker coaches," those who inherit the best program in a league and keep it at that level. He may be a good coach but nothing he's done at VCU proves that. If Pitt had an opening, I would not like it if they hired him.
Odom to VCU makes no sense. He is in a league which sends 30%-40% of its teams to the NCAA Tournament. I know he is from the East Coast and VCU is the best program in the A10 but this is a lateral move, maybe a step down to a 1 bid league. He is 1 more good season away from the P6 as it is.
Dont be surprised if there is Capel/VCU mutual interest. I called this a few weeks ago.

They had no interest in going back to the future with Jeff. And I’d imagine he didn’t want to take a 3 million dollar paycut either.
I didn’t realize he was the D3 Player of the Year. Solid hire. This is the first time that PSU has attracted a coach from a better program and at $3 million that’s significant for what they traditionally pay coaches. My buddy (Mike Shanahans cousin) oddly enough, played basketball with Rhoades in college. Speaks very highly of him.

Capel is making $3 million/year at Pitt. Mike Rhoades was making $1.2 million/year at VCU. Your math is bad. VCU has a big basketball budget. They could pay Capel $2 million-$2.5 million if they wanted to, getting reasonably close to what he's making at Pitt. But Ryan Odom is an absolute home run for them. I just dont understand why Odom would take a step down when he is already 1 year away from the ACC. Going to VCU doesn't really help him and he's probably going to have to stay there a couple years. At Utah State, he is already ready to move to the ACC.
His total compensation is a bit over 4 million. He never made as little as 3 million. As always you’re way off.Capel is making $3 million/year at Pitt. Money issues aside, Capel struggled greatly his first 4 years here. And now he has finally had the kind of season that everyone hoped he would have, and has his best recruiting class on the way. Why would he leave that situation to go to VCU?His total compensation is a bit over 4 million. He never made as little as 3 million. As always you’re way off.
Plus VCU probably wouldn’t let him hire Jason and it would cut his salary by 1/3 if they did.
Coaches contracts also include additional compensation from Nike, TV, public appearances, camps and other buckets. The bigger the school, the more supplemental compensation that is available, especially if you are at a football school. His total compensation is a bit over 4 million. SMF has been trying to argue for a year now that Capel would voluntarily leave Pitt to take a mid major job. Nothing’s gonna stop him from this.Money issues aside, Capel struggled greatly his first 4 years here. SMF has argued a lot of things over the last year and been right about .2 percent of them. I completely shut him up last week about 2 time transfers when I showed him the actual proof. Wonder if the compensation that we’ve proven is 4x as much at Pitt will shut him up this tjmeSMF has been trying to argue for a year now that Capel would voluntarily leave Pitt to take a mid major job. LOLEveryone is going to get a waiver to transfer every year. Their mental health is better at a new school. Done. You know this.
And you said Capel wont take a $3 million paycut. Lets assume, he will make $4 million next season. Rhoads made $1.86 million this year with bonuses. Lets assume he will make $2 million at VCU next season. VCU could pay their coach at least $2 million, maybe more. So Capel wouldn't be taking a $3 million paycut. He would take a minimum of a $2 million paycut, potentially only a $1 million paycut if VCU can get up to $3 million. Does this seem to make financial sense? On the surface no. But if Capel doesn't feel "safe" at Pitt and feels he is 2 years away from being fired (if he doesn't win the next 2 years), he could take the paycut to move down so he can win and move back up again in 2-4 years. Win and get out. Remember?
So you were wrong on both fronts and doubled down? ShockingEveryone is going to get a waiver to transfer every year. Their mental health is better at a new school. Done. You know this.

I’m not responding to all of that incorrectness
You’re literally wrong on everything except Odom being a better coach, but I’ve said that for 3 years. In 3 years, you’ll adopt my opinions and realize I was right on the other stuff too. It’s what always happens. Not wrong on anything. Odom is the better coach and it makes sense that VCU doesn't want to go Back to the Future. We will never know if Capel would have been interested in VCU.

And he wasn’t next on the list. It was Mike Morrill

So one of the .2 percent of things you were right about from 3 years ago is what you bring up? LoL. Sean MiLLLLLLLLLLLer fan. That is a new Low even for youWhen is Miller getting hit with the show cause? Major major L there.

Every time on every subject? Counting the ACC only getting 4 teams in as one of your wins when you admit they got 5. I’m LiteraLLy crying at how many LLLLLLLL’s you continue to take. You’re becoming a parody of SMF with your incorrect takes that posting an obvious L is one of your wins LoLCapel coming back for 22-23
75% or more of November signees enrolling if there hadn't been a coaching change
ACC getting 4 teams in. I'll count this as Pitt did not make the 64 team field.
Too many to think of.
I cant even remember what you were ever right about. March Madness would happen in March? Congrats on that one.

There is NO WAY Jeff Capel would have any real interest in VCU.. stop it with those kinds of statements. laughable. I doubt he could even use the as leverage to get an extension at Pitt, which coaches frequently try to do.Money issues aside, Capel struggled greatly his first 4 years here. And now he has finally had the kind of season that everyone hoped he would have, and has his best recruiting class on the way. Why would he leave that situation to go to VCU?

He wouldn't. Nobody would, at least not voluntarily.Money issues aside, Capel struggled greatly his first 4 years here. And now he has finally had the kind of season that everyone hoped he would have, and has his best recruiting class on the way. Why would he leave that situation to go to VCU?

Wait what am I missing? Why would Capel voluntarily leave Pitt now? And to VCU.Everyone is going to get a waiver to transfer every year. Their mental health is better at a new school. Done. You know this.

This a crazy take.Everyone is like 2 years away from being fired in these times. And Capel takes a 2.5 million dollar cut? Why the what??!!Everyone is going to get a waiver to transfer every year. Their mental health is better at a new school. Done. You know this.

I have never seen anyone, anywhere, admit that they got something factually incorrect and yet still claim that they were right all along like he often does. It's as if he thinks that if he says something like "well I thought they would get four teams in and they actually got five" will make everyone think poorly of him.
He wants to be in ACC territory to pounce on the job he wants when it opens. You might also consider that Logan, Utah and Richmond, Virginia are very different places. If Odom prefers skiing, trout fishing, and elevated deserts, then Logan is a great place. If he prefers the urban amenities offered by Richmond's Fan District, then that might hold a bit of attraction, too. The decision might not be about just basketball. In addition, he's from Raleigh and attended Hampden-Sydney College, which is just a stone's throw from Richmond. I imagine this move puts him much closer to family.
Hey I heard Jeff Capel is in talks w Bobby Mo. Loves the Moon Township area. Wow leaving Pitt to go back to VCU 😂There is NO WAY Jeff Capel would have any real interest in VCU.. stop it with those kinds of statements. laughable. I doubt he could even use the as leverage to get an extension at Pitt, which coaches frequently try to do.
While that might be very true, and, in this instance, I wouldn't argue against it, it should also be noted that if UVa can find the coach it wanted in Pullman, Washington, then there is probably no place in America where a successful coach can hide from a competent search committee. If a coach is good, folks will know about him.He wants to be in ACC territory to pounce on the job he wants when it opens.

Well what’s he getting paid at VCU vs what he made at Utah State ? I will hang up and listen and then let you know my opinion on whether or not his move was a step down.Being at VCU, in a lesser league than the one he came from, provides no advantage to him in landing an ACC job over being at Utah State. Had he stayed at Utah State, he is probably next up for an ACC job anyway. The move to VCU makes very little sense other from the career ladder perspective. Its a step down you could argue. Now, he will do well and will get an ACC job but that would have happened from Utah State. This is a major trade-up for VCU.
