Visiting Friday....
Pretty much a top priority for Capel.
I hope UNC gets commitments from PG's higher in their board.
He'd be a huge get, but this one should be tough.

Big opportunity coming out of the dead period, and especially since we get the first crack at him.

Will Davis be visiting with his family? Big chance for Capel and staff to make a positive impression with the whole family going into the in-home visit period this fall/winter. From what I’ve gathered, Davis is a kid who has placed a premium on schools who have been on him from the beginning before his profile exploded this summer. That’s a feather in our cap.

Yeah that's good if true.

Very good sign if this is his first visit of the 19/20 "school year." Yea, UNC offered and they will most likely start a FR at PG next season but I would doubt they shut down their PG recruiting if Davis commits. Inotherwords, he's their guy unless they can get someone better. At Pitt, he is the starter with the assumption that Xavier Johnson will leave.

Also, Tim O'Toole's son is on his AAU team so they have to know the family extremely well.

The PSN write up looks good. Wouldn't it be great if he commits this weekend? 1 can dream

Does anyone know if this is going to be a unofficial or a official visit? IMO I think it should be a official so they can really roll out the carpet for this guy.

Unofficial.
It seems we are holding any officials back. If we even have any right now.

we have officials ad timerberland if that's how u spell his last name is setting up an official soon

Besides the # of officials for Pitt and them re-setting maybe in September? there's gotta be a reason why Davis will have an unofficial versus a prospect who visits later and gets an OV? Again, besides the # of OV's re-setting, would think there's a reason for that.

But obviously RJ and his parents deem Pitt worthwhile and high on their list, to visit unofficially..driving there, hotel, whatever else.

Two points: August is a “quiet period” while September 1 starts a regular “recruiting period.” Is it possible that only unofficial visits are allowed during the quiet period here in August? I know coaches can’t go out and scout or recruit in person during a quiet period, but I’m not sure if there are any restrictions towards a recruit coming to campus.

Second point: an official visit allows the school to give out free tickets to a sporting event, while an unofficial doesn’t allow for that. Could it be possible that the staff has decided that there’s an advantage to be had in waiting until football season and getting some of these kids to a game to take in that atmosphere? I know we complain about attendance and Heinz Field’s location, but it’s certainly a hell of a lot better than what Georgetown or Marquette can offer on a fall official. Maybe we can get a few of these priority recruits on campus for the UVA game like we did for the PSU game last year.

official or unofficial visits if you think the schools dont pay for a lot of stuff on an unofficial visit your crazy, everything is under the table thats how they get away with it

Here we go again with the "every coach/school is crooked and dishonest" theme again.

Let's give it a rest.

I doubt he’s technically wrong. Could say hey can I have 200 for gas money and give him 200 cash and he uses it for whatever. How it used to happen at least with a lot of unofficials.

Has anyone brought up that Davis may have been the one who wanted this to be unofficial? He only gets 5 as a senior officially, 5 as a junior, not sure when the cutoff is. But if I’m him, I’m paying to go to Pitt and making sure I go to UCLA and other far ones officially to get those flights paid for.

Just an idea.

True or false--that horse has been dead so long on this board that the carcass is attracting buzzards.

Don’t bet on it. There are some players at the D2 and D3 level that are taken care of with no show jobs and doctoring financial aid.
Amen and the whole “student athlete” thing has been such a sham in the revenue sports for 50+ years now. You think Wilt Chamberlain loved the rolling plains of Kansas coming out of high school? Of course not but I’m sure he loved the “perks” of being a Jayhawk in the pre-internet days - H2P!

He's making like 10 visits combined before he makes his decision so it only makes sense to have him take an unofficial visit. Plus he's already been here on an unofficial visit so clearly he's somewhat interested if he's taking another one.
Thanks for making my point.

What I’m meaning to say is I hope this isn’t a jerkoff general visit where his coach says “oh we promised him, I’ll drive u up we’ll go to the game and leave”
I hope he said coach, I want to take 10 visits and since you’re driving distance can we make it an unofficial.

If they’re not feeling very good about him, they may have said let’s make it an unofficial and initiated the idea. Hence why I hope it was his idea...

His situation maybe different because he apparently has a family connection in Pgh.
