Rodney Hammond is Back!

Your redshirt idea is moronic.

So hypothetically, lets say we are 1-3 in the ACC in a month. You'd rather have Hammond play those last 4 to hopefully get a bid to the Pinstripe Bowl than to have him for 12 games next season where, if the important players dont transfer, we'd be one of the favorites in the ACC?

I think Hammond has been jerked around enough.

If he redshirts after 4 games, it's a sure bet that it will be his decision and it would be because he's testing the market.

It doesn't to me. We are going to get a crappy bowl unless we go 10-2. Anything less than than and NC St, VT, UNC, and friends will be getting those decent southern bowls and we'll go to El Paso again, NYC, Boston, etc.
I bet a lot of guys would be really disappointed if they had to opt out of a bowl game played in cold weather instead of getting the opportunity to opt out of one played in a better location.

Yes. Because you said it yourself. If he doesn’t transfer.

That's the other thing, if you are Hammond, wouldn't you rather play the next 4 games and then redshirt to get a nice payday next year whether that be at Pitt or elsewhere? He doesn't strike me as a sure-fire NFL guy. An NFL practice squad player makes about $225K per year if they never get activated. I would think he could make at least that or more in college next season.

I'd rather he redshirt and take the chance that he'd come back. If we are 1-3 or even 2-2 in the next 4, we have no shot at the CFP and earning a Pinstripe Bowl bid means nothing to me. I'd rather they go to the Pinstripe over Fenway or Birmingham or Detroit but it doesn't matter all that much. If you dont make the CFP, its all the NIT or CBI.

Thankfully, nobody cares about your bad opinion.

There are only about 5 teams for whom the CFP is a regular and realistic goal.

Your idea of what the average player makes is way off. Even if someone gave Hammond that much for NIL - and I don’t think he would get close to that - why would he opt to do that for one year vs being on an NFL practice squad that much closer to a pro contract? To say nothing of trying to achieve what is the dream for most players. He isn’t a guy that’s been buried on the bench. He’s a 22 y.o. RB with plenty of film. A RS to play next year isn’t going to improve his chances for a pro career.

Because I dont know if he is guaranteed to land on a practice squad. He'd have to weigh the odds. Guaranteed money in college vs the potential of NFL money.

That doesnt make the Pinstripe Bowl and Mayo Bowl any less important. They are the NIT. Once you are out of CFP contention, you are just playing for fun at that point. The season has no point other than providing entertainment for fans who still like to watch. There are no other goals to be reached.

With a sufficient amount of sh!t posting, you've successfully changed the discussion from Hammond not playing to Hammond redshirting.

No doubt another thing you'll be wrong about, in which case you'll pivot to something else.

I'll give you credit. You're wrong so much that you've successfully mastered this tactic. Plenty of experience.

I dont think he'll redshirt if we are out of the CFP race after the next 4 games. I said I think he should.

Are we ever going to find out what this was all about? Are there other examples where players are suspended and it stays a mystery?

8 wins and the dog shit bowl in old El Paso would be a hell of an achievement after last year, and I'll take it 100 times out of 100. Lot of football yet to play, and as someone else said, the season could go either direction from here.

I would have taken 8-4 also but to me there are 3 tiers for a season:

- under .500 and no bowl

- 6-6 to 9-3 and a crappy bowl. I say a crappy bowl at 9-3 because even then we wont get picked for a decent southern bowl because there will be better traveling fanbases available

- 10-2 or better

So, to me, going 8-4 and in the Sun Bowl again isnt a whole lot different than 6-6 in Detroit.

Put the shovel down and take the L like a man.

Take a break. Your takes keep getting dumber and dumber.

Guaranteed? Where would he transfer to get this magic bag? UNLV just had their starting QB quit because they wouldn’t pay him $100k. No one is going to give him that, let alone $225k. Maybe he gets $25k. Even if he doesn’t make a practice squad, he can make that much selling insurance.

UNLV has no fans......so nobody to pay. That's a bad comparison. Damien Martinez, RB from Oregon State transferred because they didnt pay him the 400K they promised. That tells me that there are higher level schools paying that much for a RB. And where did he transfer to? Miami. Hmmmm.

Some of these schools have $10 million to $20 payrolls. That means they arent paying their starting RB $25,000. Quinton Martin from Penn State got $500K but I dont know if that's for several years or what the breakdown is. Rodney Gallagher got $200K.

You really have zero idea who redshirts work

Martinez was a freshman AA that topped 2,000 yards and averaged over 6 yards a carry in Corvallis. Miami brought him in to start with 2 years left. No way Hammond gets close to that much. The other two were HS recruits that likely get that over several years.

Again......I think we have found the reason for the drop in the US News rankings. He's one of yours by the way. ;)

Playing 12 games next year instead of 4 games this November + the Fenway Bowl is actually a really smart idea if we are out of the CFP race and he isnt thought to have a great chance to make an NFL roster.

If we are still in the hunt for a CFP bid or is thought to have a good chance to make an NFL roster, then he shouldn't redshirt. This is all just common sense. You dont play 4 meaningless games that costs you a season. What if you get hurt in Game 5 or 6? You wasted a year of eligibility.
