Roy Williams

how long does he continue to coach?

I think the league will be better if UNC and Syracuse make big-time hires. Like Greg Marshall to UNC. Syracuse with their huge attendance can outbid almost anybody. People act like Syracuse will come irrelevant. No. They have too many fans and too much money. Mike Hopkins makes the most sense but I'd go after big names. Maybe a Bruce Pearl, Chris Beard, etc.

Come on Gary your asking that question do you know he has a one of the top classes coming in next yr. One down year because it injuries is not making him retire that's ridiculous to start talking like that.NC will be back to being one of the top 3 teams in the ACC next year.
Not basing that on his performance this season.

Thinking more in terms of age, health and fatigue.

From an age perspective, he's a year older than Dean Smith was when he retired ( I actually thought Williams was older). He's probably got at least five years left on the tank.

Thanks for the reply

The ACC doesn't need Bruce Pearl in it.

So maybe poor Roy can stop complaining he has no talent next year.

Roy is 70
Boeheim 75
Larranaga 70
Coach K will be 73 in a few weeks

can’t coach forever

UNC knows they'll get a home run hire. Syracuse is too dumb to realize they need to force Boeheim into retirement. He'll run erode that program to mediocrity and hamper their ability to run the proper coaching search.

It may turn out differently but it certainly looks like Hopkins-Washington equals Chryst-Pitt. Doing pretty well there, too.

Yea but he probably only has 3-4 years left due to age. Same as Boeheim and K.
What I wanted was for posters to post how many years they thought he would continue to coach.

Until your post, I believe only one other poster answered the question asked. I thanked him for giving a direct answer to the question raised. I thank you as well.

My guess would be 2.

They’ll give him a chance to right the ship. We will see after next season. Two NCAA misses in a row will be difficult

UNC isn't like PITT.

Point # 1- he wont go anywhere until he wants to go.
He's not going anywhere after one down year.

Point # 2- UNC will transition to a new HC when its time.
For those who live in the City of Pittsburgh ( inner city education isn't that great) transition means:

Transition
NOUN
  1. the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another.
See changing coaches is a process

I doubt they're stupid enough to do things the PITT way, dump coaches with no process or good replacement plan good plan that's how we ending up with coaches like Graham Stallings and Michael Haymaker.

Lyke did fine with the Capel hire.

Gary I doubt that he'll go in till 80 but I could be wrong but IMO he'll coach in between now (70) and 80 and I'll think they'll let him leave on his own terms.

The correct answer is almost certainly as long as he damn well pleases.
I think my question was "how long does he continue to coach." -

Where does that indicate it is not "his" decision?

That is certainly not how long does UNC or the fan base or the media allow him to coach.

Just to be clear.

So if you think that Williams can coach pretty much as long as he wants to then what you are really asking is for everyone to get out their crystal ball or their Ouija board and consult the spirits.

He'll coach as long as he wants to. Today he might think that's one or two more years. Or he might thinks it's six or eight more years. And six months from now he could think something completely different. And no one here, literally no one, has any idea at all what the real answer is.

Just to be clear.

That's exactly the question I asked. Sorry I omitted the Ouija board part.

I can see how that could confuse people.

I really appreciate you pointing that out.

Thanx Jack

This actually is probably the first season in awhile where Williams has had to coach... right?

I saw that clip played during our game where he looked like someone died ( in reality he was discussing another loss to media)

I told my wife he’s just mad because he has to actually coach ;)
