Rumored transfer

Somewhat walking back what I stated earlier blasting his lack of production & how he was used. I was strictly going on Pitt's need for WRs and Spann filling that need.

Seems like he was originally recruited by Illinois as a QB, and I don't know how he's been used since. Obviously as a kick returner, but it appears he's a been mostly a slash type player & perhaps its just been hard for FSU to find a way to get him the ball. I think Duece clearly has some potential and he is worth taking a flyer on, imo. I'd be excited to have Spann at Pitt next year, but not as a guy that we can count on to make our WR room better, if that makes any sense.

Baer was a high school recruit, but you could add names like:

Hodges - Texas
Browne - USC
Slovis - USC
Peterman - Tennessee
Hendrix - Tennessee
Gragg - Arkansas
Ulizio - Michigan
Jacoby - OSU
Lynum - Nebraska
Borders - Nebraska
Devonshire - Kentucky
Cooper - NC State
C'Bo - Notre Dame
Johnson - Florida
Jurkovec - BC
Griffin-Stewart - Rutgers
Johnson - TCU
Overman - Oregon State
Brown - Cal
Etc.
Bold for good and italics for OK pickup. In general, not too bad as a supplement. Just not something you can build a roster on.

I think Pitt666 was originally trying to name portal era transfers, but he can sort all that out. The point is yeah, Pitt, like most other schools sign transfers from everywhere.

Great memory, btw. I'm both impressed and jealous.

nobody can be paying much for a 6"4" guy

I don't care if he runs a 4.1

I know, need to head out for a run or something useful
Its wild. The same posters joke about 5'7 guys from small colleges, now the same people joke about a 6'4 guy from FSU. Pitt with its so called fans are damn if it does or dont. They simply cant win with the fans.

Now its go after big time players, when you all boast Pitt cant compete for big time players. Dont any of you actually think about what you are posting? Because it is so easy to call you out for so many contradictions.

the 5'7" guy impressed pretty quickly

who made that error on him? when compared to Dion and Ray he's lighter but not too much and he is faster than Dion and way faster than Ray

not sure anyone who knew nothing about him shouldn't have been skeptical but Des wiped that away quickly and to many more held up physically where most probably thought he'd likely get hurt

dude was amazing and will be key to any success Pitt may have next year

What’s wild is posters getting all excited about a guy’s size and speed or the program he’s coming from when he hasn’t done $hit in 5 years of college football, or bashing a guy because of his lack of size or program he’s coming from when he has been highly productive at the college level.

The only explanation for any of that is that most people aren’t very smart.

It’s true, there’s very little downside to bringing this guy in. There’s also very little upside. After 5 years of P4 football, pretty clear that he is what his track record says he is.

What are you expecting out of Spaan?

He can return kicks, he's played a little QB, WR... I think they can find ways for him to contribute. It's probably a good value pickup. I don't think he's being counted on to make any real improvement the WR room.

Senator-You can have my answer now if you’d like. My expectation for Spann is this:

Nothing.

And that's exactly what you should count on, given his career. That said, I think there are ways he can be a niche player. The guy clearly has some physical talent. With this, his last chance to do anything to get noticed, hopefully he will put in the work, be focused like never before and we'll get something out of him.

Maybe they’re trying another bub means type?
Bub had Jerry Rice numbers coming to Pitt compared to this guy. Not to mention 3 years of eligibility.

But whatever, add him, don’t add him, it won’t matter to the results on the field one way or the other.
