Our capper for the season is playing a 6-6 team at 2:00 p.m. on a Wednesday in a baseball stadium. And losing. This constitutes a a good year for Pitt football.

I can take losing to the dregs of the Big Ten with a glorified WPIAL team, but we are 40 years from playing a game with any type of national championship consequences. That's what really depresses me.

Well, with the BCS Playoff Games (or whatever the heck they're calling it these days), there really are only three games that have any national consequence. I suppose that if we had finished runner-up in the ACC and had an invite to the Orange Bowl, it would be something to relish. But now - with the plethora of mid-tier and participation trophy bowls - the whole post-season is basically a means for the networks selling more ads; the venue and host sponsors trying to fill the stadiums as best they can; alumni traveling to (hopefully) a fun area; and the team getting another 4-6 weeks of practice. But despite our loss; even a win today would have gone relatively unnoticed by 99.5% of the population. It sucks to lose, but unless you're playing a more "traditional" football school (or at least one that has a history of success, and the bowl game is one of the "biggies") the majority of the bowl games are just "meh"
