Sacramento State has the #37 recruiting class in the country

The post wasn't meant to criticize Pitt as it was to point out that Marion is doing something historic as he seems to be getting FBS recruits to play FCS.

He's got a long way to go if he wants to catch up to bringing Hunter to Jackson State.

Are we sure these are FBS players? A 1.9 average star rating is like a team Northwestern would dominate.

You have a hard time with context.

He's not recruiting any kids to play FCS football. The kids he signs in the 2026 class will play FBS football albeit as an Indy.

Well, I don't believe they'll be playing FCS. Sac State will be playing FBS by the time they suit up. But I understand your point. My question to you is do you really think it is Marion? Or is their hiring of Marion indicative of a "shock and awe" approach that the school has adopted as they move to FBS? Like I said earlier - they are paying more for kids than other schools are willing to pay. Why wouldn't a mid level recruit take the money and playing time promise vs going to a school where they'd make less money and would have other talented kids ahead of them on the depth chart? Not hard to understand. And not indicative of how awesome Marion is.

I think we should wait and see how this all plays out before crowning Marion as a messiah.

NCAA rules prohibit joining FBS as an independent. They "applied" to do it but its not allowed.
OK - so shouldn't we wait until Sac States application for FBS is denied before passing judgement on their recruiting? Will their 5 3 star prizes stick if that happens?

Your gushing over Marion is very premature.

If they have the financial backing, they can get a waiver just like Liberty did.

Liberty's waiver was because no conference would accept them based on their religous/political views. Sacramento State's case is much difference. That said, I cant imagine the Mountain West wouldn't take them. That Baylor student, who is like the new "Dude of WV" says the Big 12 is going to add them but he had the Big 12 adding everyone

So Sac State can make up a reason

1. Do they have more money to spend that most FBS schools, including Pitt?

2. Does the HC get no credit for exciting a donor base and getting them to step up?
Purely con
see below
Purely conjecture, but if you colocalize Sacramento State with Silicon Valley, I have a pretty good idea where the NIL money is coming from. Translation-Marion is smart enough to go where the money is and it isn’t at Pitt. No way he is coming here unless he proves he can win with his talent and Pitt gets an uptick in Alliance 412. At that point I suspect there will be plenty of other talented coaches if there was a vacancy.

Sacramento is an hour and a half from San Francisco and 2 hours from Palo Alto. Its not in Silicon Valley.
