That’s the sad part. He deserved to retire and enjoy the rest of his life, but unfortunately his condition didn’t allow that.

Absolutely. But then, if he hadn't had his condition, who knows, he might still be coaching. It's too bad he won't be able to watch his former pupil build the program.

Rande will always have a major place in Pitt athletics history. His whole professional life was dedicated to Pitt. It's just too bad that because wrestling isn't as high profile as some other sports that many people won't realize what Pitt just lost.

Fellow Pitt Alumni and Friends,

It is a sad day for Pitt wrestling as our coach, mentor, teammate, and friend, Rande Stottlemyer passed away this morning. http://pittsburghpanthers.com/news/2018/1/28/pitt-wrestling-icon-rande-stottlemyer-passes-away.aspx

Visitation will be this Thursday and Friday, from 2 to 8 p.m., at Ferguson Funeral Home in Belle Vernon, Pa. There will be an additional visitation on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. Celebration of Life Service, at The Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Drive, in McMurray, Pa.

To defray costs for the family, a bank account has been set up to accept donations.

It is amazing how many people are connected through this one man and if we all even make a small contribution, it will add up. Please contribute over the next few days so that the money can be given to the family on Saturday. If you have any issues, feel free to contact me.

For those of you who have never seen it, here is the video made for Coach Stottlemyer’s retirement dinner. Thank you to alumni Josh Birt for putting it together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2koTVveInPk

Lastly, please share this message with anyone you see fit.
