Sagarin computer rankings today

WVU #19, PITT #36, PSU # 56
Sound about right at this time, but would like to see it end up PITT#19, WVU#36 and PSU#56!

WVU plays a terrific schedule and is still capable of recovering although I doubt it, the OU Defeat was just devastating to every Player on that Team. As well as to Holgrosen's statement his Team is near a Championship Caliber, WE SHALL SEE? Some more beatings like that and Holgrosen will be gone before the end of season or one hour after it ends?

Penn State Franklin's did no favors for having such a horrible early schedule with no Power Conference Opponents and just Scrimmages. Now comes the Big Ten and they ain't Rutgers that lost 6 Starting Players? Franklin became very upset in the Press Conference about questioning of his coaching and the knives are out among Fans and Other PS4RS Trustees with the Paterno's that made O'Brien leave ASAP. Penn State Players cannot wait to leave the Pen State Program are Franklin's biggest critics, as New Recruits sit the bench wondering why they are not starting as promised by Fast Franky??? Franklin is looking more like Head Coach that cannot run a Top 25 Program?

Meanwhile, New First Year Pitt's Coach Pat & Staff with far less time and far less resources and far less recruiting rankings are improving their Pitt Players and playing new Pitt Recruits in every game.

There are 7 and 8 games remaining, We shall see?

This would be very entertaining to see all three teams play each other this year. All three teams are flawed and very different. I sure like Pitt's fight in any game.

No votes in either poll? Iowa is ranked by people and the computers between 20 and 25, and we lost to them by the margin commonly assigned to home field advantage (which they had in a big time way with a rare night game = super energetic crowd), on a once-in-a-lifetime play as time expired. I know our other 2 FBS games didn't look great because they were both played in terrible weather conditions, but we were clearly the better team in both.

I think Pitt is one of the top 20-30 teams right now, and I think we have over a 50% chance of being 6-1 when heading into our match-up with UNC on the 29th.

Well I am not going to argue the lack of votes.....all I care about is winning.
Let's win some games. Winning games on the road is very difficult and I doubt our W over VT will go unnoticed....but VT lost the week before at home.So while any and every win is a good win, beating VT is nothing to write home about.
What is more important to me is the attention to detail I see and PN's view of th whole game.
If winning takes hold, we won't worry about rankings......

PITT favored by 10 against UVA. UVA has given PITT a hard time, with the home team seemingly winning each game. That trend should continue at home as both the offense and defense continue to learn different systems and improve.

As fast as the rankings go, I fully agree at this point. PITT's offense has seen moments of greatness, followed by long periods of floundering. As Peterman and the young RBs begin see the game show down a bit, I believe we'll see them develop consistency. When that happens, this team will be very dangerous.

That's incorrect. VT lost at ECU the week before. ECU had a bad loss to Navy, but played very well against Florida.

Not surprised it is Pitt by 10. Sagarin's computer predicts Pitt by 16 but our offense hasn't shown any ability to put points on the board.

The fact Penn State's SOS is even that high makes this computer system a joke. At the very least half of their season is against well below mediocre teams. Pitt's not playing great teams weak in and weak out by any means, but PSU playing a couple top teams shouldn't raise their SOS that high.

I agree, at first glance, it is surprising PSU's SOS is even that high.... but I believe Temple is actually pulling their SOS upward....
I like Sagarin's logic.. however, it is just now starting to stabilize, and sometimes takes as many as 6 to 7 games to get a good reading on the rankings...
It will be interesting how this looks after 2 more weeks...

Unfortunately after two more weeks, PSU will have played OSU. That could boost their SOS even more, win or lose that game. Then the Nitters will all point and say how tough of a schedule they play and how impressive it is they still have a winning record. Indiana is playing pretty good this season, but it's still Indiana. If Penn State wins I still wouldn't call that an impressive victory.

If you checked the conferences ratings in Sagarin's, the ACC-Coastal is rated (4th) higher than SEC-East (5th), ACC-Atlantic (6th), PAC 12-North (7th), Big Ten-West (8th), Independent (9th) & Big Ten-East (10th)!

In that case, I actually would agree with that list. Only thing that would be debatable is maybe the Pac-12 North is better than the ACC Atlantic. Other than that I don't think you can argue the rest of it.

Those SOS values equate to rankings of:
Pitt 18th
WVU 68th
PSU 104th!!!

Pitt has ND, WVU has TCU & Baylor and UPS has tOSU & MSU left to play so these rankings will change a lot over the next 8 weeks. But the point is UPS non-con was a joke.

Some of the more delusional nits actually think they can win out. Somehow I don;t think beating Army at home by 6 is a cause for the playoff committee to take notice.
