Salomon

It is my opinion, and no problem with anyone that thinks otherwise, but it seems to me, Narduzzi & Staff really have Great Confidence in knowing the can change the Attitude & Discipline of Recruits and Players to focus on becoming better Football Players, Students, and Athletes under them and at Pitt!

Does anyone of the Lair Poster Recruiting Experts know if Salomon, Wallace and Winfield will be as good as Bryant, Fitzgerald, and Boyd were in their Freshmen year?

It is clear to me, Coach Pat & Staff really want to bolster and replace Boyd's Heading to the NFL Abilities not down the road, but this 2016 year, but I admit I do not know and any insights from all of you would be appreciated?

In all likelyhood, probably not. Bryant, Fitz and Boyd were special. Its very difficult to project what kind of impact a WR will make as a true freshman. Even the best sometimes only make minimal contributions as true freshman. I don't even think coaches can project how they will perform until they get them on the practice field.

Fair comment, but Bryant had some problems and Boyd was accountable by not playing in YSU, I saw few problems on off field problems under Narduzzi in his first year is my point!

I agree with you, seldom do I see Players that transfer become big stars as seen when Penn State Players that left under Sanctions did not pan out as expected at OU or USC.

Or when Mundy Graduated from Michigan and played one year at WVU? I think it is very tough to integrate a New Transfer for just 1 to 2 years? It happens at QB sometime and that has worked out like when Wilson went to Wisconsin and of course Peterman to Pitt? Golson to FSU or Iowa QB!

Yet, I have seen how Coach Pat & Staff have focus the Pitt Players on doing their assignments to become better players as a Team. The same at Penn State under New Compliance Reforms with Athletic Integrity Agreement's Code of Conducts now subjecting the Penn State Football Players to being treated as regular student unlike under Paterno? Much less off field problems.

We shall see?

If you look at Salomon's 247 prediction at one point it was LSU & then later Bama-This kid is like Randy Moss if we can keep him in the right direction will be a total steal.
Randy Moss got in a fight in high school that resulted in charges due to the kid's injuries. He had already been committed to Notre Dame. ND encouraged him to go somewhere else. So he signed his LOI with FSU. He was on probation for the fight and tested positive for marijuana- which violated his probation. FSU released him as he had to do a small amount of jail time for the violation.
So he went back to WV where he's from to play for Marshall.

Big colleges didn't back away from Moss because of his fight.

A HS athlete being a knucklehead is fairly to be expected.
Being on a recruiting visit out of town, sitting and staring at a naked co-ed while she slept- and then stealing her phone to be charged with burglary isn't.

I hope this kid doesn't come to Pitt.

souf, are you sure about the part of him sitting and staring at a naked girl while she slept? i thought he was just arrested for burglary(stealing the phone)?

I don't know that either one of those would scare away the big schools. I remember there was an OL from Georgia many years ago that was busted for much the same thing, minus the stealing. He was still very highly recruited. His name escapes me, but he was from Warner Robbins, GA and ended up signing with Tennessee. ...Speaking of GA recruits, I think Jamal Lewis had a shoplifting charge while he was in high school. I don't think UGA backed off, but for some reason, their staff had made Jasper Sanks #1 on their board and pursued him harder. Rodney Garner, with his GA ties, brought Lewis to Tennessee.

Most of your friends creepily sat in a stranger's dorm room while she slept, to explain you saw she was naked in there so wanted to watch...
And then stole her iPhone.
Denied you did, but continued to use said phone...
So you were charged with burglary??

You and your friends are effing creepy.
Sorry, I'll confess to not knowing the details of the story. If it was real creepy, I wasn't aware of that.

My point was that if he stole something awhile back, and Narduzzi and staff have assessed the situation and are ok with bringing him on, I'll leave it to him to make the right judgment. Assuming he has looked into the matter fully, he is in a way better spot to judge the situation than us fans who don't know the kid.

this part is known, prior to the arrest, he had offers from basically every heavy weight in the country. flash forward to the last week and he's visiting temple and pitt....strange

on the other wr possibility, i'm assuming if urban wants wallace, he will be at OSU.

Speakin' of Ohio State - they currently list three 4-star tight ends among their commits. Seems kind of strange; I guess one of them could move to the OL, but they also list four Olinemen...

Might help us with getting a top TE in next year's class.

Go Pitt.

This isn't a situation of a bored kid doing something with his friends in his hometown.
HE WAS ON A COLLEGE VISIT TO UGA when this happened.

I'd pass.

Unfortunately when you want to recruit against the big boys not everyone is going to be a choir boy as the old saying goes. This is probably not the first player that Narduzzi has recruited with a questionable background and it will not be the last. However with that being said if your upfront and tell the young man you have no second or third strikes you have one strike.

I'd be satisfied with not total deviant, rather than seeking choir boys.

I read many good post here by all posters on it, and I admit I have no clue, but Narduzzi is pursuing him, and just wondering if Coach Pat & Staff sees something we are all missing and will the player re-focus his behavior to just being better on FB.

I think we saw the Transfer 4 Star Winfield admit he made mistakes and just really concentrated on becoming better last year, and will be bringing his new game attitude, and should contribute right away.

I thank all for great post and now we shall see, up to Narduzzi and Salomon!

And after evaluating the situation fully, the staff could be wringing their hands trying to figure out whether they want to take a risk on the kid or not, OR may be have come to the conclusion that this kid came so close to losing everything and knows the consequences that he is the least risky recruit they've seen.
But none of has any insight into what they've learned, so let's let them make the call.

You might need to hire a full time person just to watch this kid.

Before I get a lecture - no, I don't expect a saint. But after 30+ years of working with these kinda guys, I'll simply advise Pitt to tread carefully.

Meh who cares. He's going to classes and playing football not hosting a Girl Scout slumber party. His job is to entertain me and make Penn State fans feel bad about themselves.

He was a minor anyway. The brain isn't fully developed at that stage. Sometimes its drastically underdeveloped. Souf got busted smacking his dick off his sleeping grandma's forehead at the same age but he turned out OK.

On second thought, put this kid in a Hannible muzzle and keep him the hell away from Pitt.

Weird visual.
Projecting?

I am torn on such a prospect. Clearly what this kid allegedly has done is very disturbing, but he did not place his hands on her, molest, or anything etc. However, it is still very concerning behavior. Yet, he was young and and taking a cell phone and using isn't as worrisome, it is the fact that he entered a sleeping co-eds room and watched her while she slept is just very concerning. The kid says he saw she was naked so he walked in the room and watched her. My question is, how did he see her naked in the 1st place, was her door open for all to see as they walked by. Was he already in the room with someone else, and stayed there after she passed out? Who knows the real story, and not that it excuses the behavior, but was he ever even charged for anything other than the cell phone theft, and why didn't she have him charged immediately and call the cops that evening? These are the type of questions that I am sure PN has the answers to, and we never will.

With that said, PN knows that at this time in his Pitt timeline, he does not have talent like this guy apparently has and I am sure for as detailed as PN seems to be that he has more knowledge of this kid's character and the facts surrounding the situation than anyone on this board will ever know. I am definitely not thrilled about his potential to blow up in PN's face, but at the same time, sometimes you have to take a chance and give someone a second chance who may have just made an extremely bad decision. If PN feels this kid has changed his character and as stated in an earlier post PN tells him "you don't get another opportunity here, if you mess up your out", then who are we too judge when PN has done more research on the incident in question and background research on the recruit himself than all Pitt fans combined. In this instance I will trust his judgment.

Not so fast!! This kid blew up.

Wallace is headed to OSU. He has been waiting for that offer his whole life. Call the next case.

I get the controversy with Salomon, but I say take the chance on him anyway. A playmaking wideout is still a huge priority for us. We don't have anyone on our roster or in this class that can run like this guy can. With his speed, at 6'3 and 210, he has superstar written all over him. He's on 5 year probation so the smallest slip up and he's in jail. The kid was a 5 star WR, the #2 WR prospect in the country, and most likely headed to Bama had he not F'd up. I'd give him a shot to show he's not the scumbag he would appear to be. We can't afford NOT to take a shot at a player like this. This is the kind of athlete you have to have to play with the big boys. Important recruit--let's get it done.

Lol alright Souf, no need to start throwing out words you heard from your therapist. Just relaying what I heard. Don't shoot the messanger.

BTW, quick show of hands: just how against this Solomon kid coming here are you fellas? Anyone gonna revoke donations? Quit buying tickets? Quit watching?

First off, the fall out (positive or negative) is something HCPN has to assess. If he feels its worth the risk, hes the guy who will either reap the reward or suffer the consequences. He seems like a coach who knows what hes doing and has the most to gain or lose...........If the kid gets on campus and screws up, it has no impact on my life what so ever. Having said that, I'd say its worth the risk. Lets face it, contrary to what some believe, college football is a bottom line business. All this nonsense about graduation rates, teaching kids life skills, etc, is window dressing.

I also find it amusing that some of the very same people who are questioning whether or not Duzz should accept this kid have said in the past that they don't care about this kids character, just their performance on Saturday......................this was in response to comments that a particular coach had a good group of players who went to class and didn't get into trouble..............

Narduzzi could always ask Conner (if he was feeling up to it) to take Salomon under his wing and give him guidance next year. It would allow a kid who has made some bad decisions in the past to have an opportunity to be mentored by a truly special person. Someone who also happens to have superstar talent, but has been very careful and conscious about doing what is right and what helps to keep him grounded. And getting to see all that James is going through now, could help this kid better appreciate his gifts and the opportunity that lies ahead, instead of taking them for granted and squandering it all.

Conner has to be selfishly focused on himself the next 18 months or so.

If you're referring to me..that's nothing like what I've said.

I said keep academically eligible and out of trouble with the law. That's it, that's the list for my requirements for athletes.
I'm under no delusion these are top notch citizens.

Conner's a football player, not a life coach. And I think he has his hands full as it is. No need to throw this burden on him.

Has Narduzzi offered this kid or is he just visiting?

No question Conner needs to be focused on himself. Obviously, nothing is more important than his health. That being said, he is the kind of person who genuinely loves helping out his fellow teammates and maybe it's something he'll feel will energize his spirit- which could positively affect his health. And again, like I mentioned in my post above, "If he is up for it."

This guy won't get any peer mentoring. Those isn't the NFL. The coaches won't let him out of their sight.

Conner is a wonderful role model for anyone who possess the talent and dream to play football at the college level and possibly beyond, just like AD was a great role model for Conner. I am in no way suggesting Conner become a life coach, just someone who helpful for Salomon can talk to at Pitt. Someone who has done things the right way as a star college athlete, when it could have been so easy for him to have made the wrong decisions.

I would imagine that being the case. Especially with this crew. These coaches seem to look after these kids like they are their own.

I would think Connor will be expected to lead next year (and as Pitt fans...how fortunate are we that a guy like this will be the face of the program?)

Helping with this Soloman kid I think would resonate with Connor as part of the role of team leader.

I would think the faith put in him by his coaches would only strengthen his resolve...and further accelerate his return to full health.
