He probably means it this time and was probably always going there (very tough to break out of any cult). But, I think it waa a triumverant of events in the last week that really made up his mind.

1. Ollison being named ACC FOY. Sanders has probably been hearing how he's better than Ollison and is our starter next year. Well, Franklin can easily say, "Hey Miles, Ollison ran for more yards than Barkely and is one heck of a running back. Dont believe me? Well, he was the beat offensive freshman in the entire ACC. He wont be any easier to beat out than Barkely."

2. Conner coming back. It goes without saying that the circumstances surrounding his "return" totally suck and I dont want to jinx anything or make any predictions because none of us know how this will go but there is probably a good possibility that he's our starting RB against Villanova. And if that's the case, and he's near full health, he's one of the best backs in college football and Sanders has no chance to beat him out and could actually be 3rd string behind Ollison.

3. Chaney leaving. That was nail on coffin. Probably wasnt coming here anyway but he likes Franklin and wasnt interested in the new OC after Chaney was probably telling him he was his man.

At this point in time, you just have to wish him well. Regarding, Chaney, the next OC could be as good or better. I mean it's pretty manifest the Dominatrix has some coaching issues at UPS. However, he believes ( or his family believes ) he should go to UPS so more power to him.

This was inevitable, his mother was highly susceptible to the Dominator's ways. She was never giving her blessing for a decomit - to any program.

Pitt has a solid bunch of rb's,would have liked Sanders, but get me a stud lineman or another db and I'm good.

Listen, if Miles and his parents are comfortable with PSU, their program, staff, and locale, then it is a good choice for them. The kid needs to find a comfort zone for his choice. Best of luck to him. Miles gave Pitt much respect and consideration even after his verbal, so Pitt had its chance, especially with the number of recruits from the area chiming in. I don't buy the Chaney thing, because, even though he might have liked Chaney, I'm sure he like some other coaches from Pitt, especially Narduzzi, or he wouldn't have entertained Pitt at all. It was the 'out' for the present situation. If Pitt was a serious consideration, he could have said that he would wait to see who the next OC would be. He didn't use the firing of Donovan as an out, so this was different. Miles is passing up a chance to play in front of his hometown friends and family, and possibly become a 'hero' in the mold of Dorsett, Marino, Ditka, Revis, etc. etc., so apparently a rural campus setting is more appealing for he and the family. Maybe, this was good timing for Pitt, because of the Robt Washington possibility, but nevertheless, the vibe for Pitt football is growing, and they will get a top back to follow in the footsteps of the past legends.

They will go head to head next year when PoSU comes to town. If Connor does come back, I wouldn't give him a lot of carries against Villanova, save him for the big game.

I'll take out one-two punch of Conner-Ollison next season over anyone UPS pairs with Barkley.

Great post ...

They were always sucking hind teet ... Losing Chaney was as you noted the nail in the coffin.

IF PSU had not gotten a commit from him before nards and company had a chance to get going with him, it may have tuned out differently. But, it is what it is, and as noted wish him well and move on.

I want Khaleke Hudson here more than Sanders. He will be a stud LB here.

This D is tailor made for Hudson, even with that said, I don't see him coming our way. Probably joining Sanders if PSU has the space left. They are still recruiting kids above Hudson.

How bout Hudson at Safety. Kind of "over" the 190lb linebackers, at least for now.. We've got a few already.

No, Hudson has to play LB here. You can find DBs all over the place. Everybody is a DB. LBs are hard to find and he has the frame to play LB.

Don't forget about Ibrahim who will be back next year & is a damn good back in his own right.

Add Hall to that list. He showed some flashes this year as a Freshman. An off-season of strength and conditioning will go a long way toward him taking the next step.

I think he will be the main back, or splitting carries with Ollison.
He just is a better all around back.
Not elite, not a kid who is going to win the heisman.
But, a grinder who can make a guy miss here or there and who can help win a lot of games.

Agree with you and others about Sanders. We are good to go at TB, Sanders would have been found money. We aren't going to make our living on kids that are committed elsewhere. No sweat.

I think posters are setting themselves up for disappointment with Hamlin too. Hopefully I'm wrong but I've just had a gut feeling all along that he will big-time us in the end. As with Sanders, he;d be a great get, honestly more important than Sanders, but we will be fine without him. Narduzzi has always made his bones with 2-3 star DBs. Similarly, MSU and Dantonio made their living on 2-3 star RBs that were overlooked by the big dogs.

Sanders cant be worrying about Hall and Ibrahim. Every program has backup RBs like that. Its the Ollison/Conner combo that helped make his mind up.

I think we should hire the fired PSU OC, Donovan for a role on our staff, get Sanders to sign here, then fire Donovan and get a real coach in place. :)

Good post, I admit I do not follow recruiting as much as other Posters and they are far more knowledgeable.

However, throughout this entire process, I read in the Trib, that Sanders came from North Carolina and was only in our region for the last 4 years.

Sanders like Whitehead last year that preferred Pitt, pretty much had his heart and head set on Penn State and consider his choices and decided what he desired was still Penn State and no other schools changed his mind, and Michigan, WVU, Pitt and Ohio State will find other Players and Penn State got him.

Godspeed Mike!

Hudson does not like PSU. he may not go to Pitt be he isn't going to PSU either. just spoke to his sister yesterday. He just finished his UCLA visit and liked it. I'm told they are high on his list.

Sanders is good and deserves to be recruited. But Pitt isn't desperate for RB's. Think about it: how long has it been since Pitt lacked a great running back?

that is interesting that your saying he doesn't like psu. he has kept things closer to the vest than probably any of the 412 crew. eventually we will find out, would love to see him lineup in our D.

Several posters say Chaney leaving is a big reason Sanders won't come to Pitt. I don't see why that's the case. The next OC is still going to run the ball. Maybe even more than this year. So no matter where he goes. He'll still get his carries.

You missed the topic that I was replying to; where a post was made regarding taking Conner and Ollison over Barkley and anyone else UPS trots out on the field.

I don't think Sanders is worried about anyone; if you're an elite back you welcome the challenge, not run from it.

I wish Miles the best. He has every right to pick the school which makes him happiest. Having said that I do not have to root for him. Good Luck to Sanders and I hope we kick his as* next year.
I like your post.
Recruiting is a zero sum game so I wrote this poem after four Margaritas:
He'll pick the school where he thinks he'll have a blast.
I hope he sits the bench and get fiberglass in his a-s.
And I do hope we kick his a-s.
Hopefully this Nitters will finish last!

It's the case because Sanders said so himself. I didn't know the reason but I said for weeks he was definitely considering Pitt but when Chaney left Sanders said he was sticking with PSU and wasn't taking any more visits.

I think Chaney leaving gave Sanders a "reason" to shut down his recruiting. I am sure that he was feeling the pressure to stay local and now he can say this was the tipping point and it's hard to argue with that. It allows him to give respect to Pitt and still go to Penn State where he has been committed to for a long time. Just my 2 cents.

Right because Chaney leaving for 50% more money is worse than Jimmy firing St Penn’s OC for performance! Must be the water in centre county

No, I'm not saying Chaney should or shouldn't have left or that it's better or worse than the OC situation at Penn State. I'm just saying that if Sanders wanted to go to Penn State but felt pressure to stay home, the OC leaving at Pitt gives him a reason that he can use to justify it.

When Sanders shut things down. Did he use Chaney's name as the reason? If he did I missed it.
