Saturday morning golf game rained out which is always a huge bummer after a hard week of work so I thought I'd post a few thoughts on the 2019 Pitt Panthers:
1. Don't like the new uniforms, I love the new uniforms. I think Heather has done a great job of re-branding the sports franchise.
2. I am reasonably optimistic about next year specifically because I think this will be Pitt's best defense in the Narduzzi tenure. I think at all three levels you've got athleticism, speed and play making.
3. Patrick Jones is the most violent player on this defense followed by a tie with Reynolds and Pine. Those players definitely bring an edge this defense and I think will bring back physicality that's been lacking.
4. Love the corners, and Hamlin has really grown into his role. I think the jury is still out on Ford because my sense is he has a tendency to free lance a bit too much. There's no question that he can make plays but will he do it within the structure of the defense?
5. The Twyman Camp Watts interior will be very solid. As long as they stay healthy I think they will deliver push up the middle and anchoring against the run.
6. I like the hiring of Whipple very much, I don't like the offensive line right now. Really worried here. that's the biggest question mark. Besides Morrissey show me whose a lock road grader or pass protector? While I think Borbs is a good coach I think it's probably the least talented area on the team and while I'm reasonably optimistic I'm not doing cartwheels. Couple that with still major question marks on Pickett you have think the performance of the offense is the big ?
7. Don't love that right off the bat your starting with a good defense on the schedule but the schedule is not over the top. Defense travels and there's no reason that we should not be in every game.
8. Anxious to see how this group of WR's work with Whipple and Beatty.
