Schiano to Rutgers after all

Remember he was all set to go to Tennessee and the Ped State Scandal caught up to him.
Testimony was he saw Jerry in the showers doing his thing to a little boy but knowing the Ped State culture did nothing.

In 10 years went 5-1 in bowls - won 9 or more games 3 times.

Makes sense for them. Obviously they're not going to become a powerhouse, but he should at least get them to the level of a Purdue, which means winning 6 or 7 games occasionally, and getting to a minor bowl. (Damn, that sounds familiar)

Probably the best they could have hoped for. No one else with his level of experience was going there. At the same time, I think it fails miserably like Edsall going back to UConn.

Need to keep an eye on his staff. I don't recall Rutgers being mentioned in Pitt's "new" recruiting footprint when the kids are committing to Pitt. And we don't need to start bumping heads with another good recruiter.

His 28-48 conference record in a really bad Big East should transfer to about 8-68 in the Big 10. That’s probably still pretty good for Rutgers though.

If Rutgers schedules 3 cupcake wins in the non conference, then they might get back to 6-6 or possibly 7-5. That is about the best they can hope for. It is better than what they have now, but they need to be realistic.

As I said before, they are going to be sitting there four or five years from now with a Big Ten winning percentage like you posted and they are going to be wondering what in the heck they spent all that money on.

That is also known as the Minnesota gambit. And there are a couple other low level Big Ten teams that follow it. Schedule yourself three guaranteed wins in the non-conference, beat the real crap teams, Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Northwestern, etc, and then when you do actually have to play a decent team hope like hell for one upset a season.

Minnesota is 10-2 this year. They've been one of the top stories of the college football season. They accomplished that by playing exactly three teams better than mediocre (and nearly half a dozen far worse than that), and getting the upset in one of those games (fortunately, that one game was against the nitters).

Given what Schiano did in the past, that's what Rutgers is going to try. Three non-conference games against teams that don't have a pulse, and then hope you can beat Maryland and Indiana most years, maybe get lucky with missing the better West teams in your cross over games, and all the sudden you've won seven or even eight games. And you still aren't any good.
