Any word about the employment status of our AD? We were supposed to hear something by the end of last week or the beginning of this week, but total silence. I am wondering if he is leaving but they are keeping a lid on it until after the Pinstripe Bowl. Or maybe Gallagher is in serious negotiations with Barnes trying to convince him to stay. Does anyone have any insights as to what is going on?

He just tweeted Hail to Pitt, and that they sold the second allotment of bowl tickets.

I take his return to Twitter after a week in hiding to mean that a week of negotiations has led to Gallagher retaining him somehow.

Nicely played by Barnes. He found some more money to offer Canada, but since Canada left anyway now some of that money is available for his own retention.

Really? Barnes is doing such a great job the Pitt has to throw more money at him? Wow.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette is reporting this morning that Barnes has been offered the same position at Oregon State according to the Oregonian. The two sides were negotiating, the newspaper reported.

If he wanted to stay at Pitt he should have said so immediately. However, from the tone of today's article it sounds as if he is still negotiating with Oregon State.

You want to have an AD who is committed to Pitt.

In my opinion he may do a Todd Graham and leave.

I guess we should hear something more definitive in the next couple of days.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Colin Dunlap and Jim Colony are tweeting that there there is much more to why Barnes is leaving and Pitt fans should give Barnes a break.

Yet his a hole buddies at the fan and trib and pg are bashing pitt over this. Huge double standard.

If anyone had any actual skills (and don't confuse credentials with skills), they would know by now why he is leaving.
But there are too many flies on the planet and not enough sh!t to eat, so they have to feast on something.
Was in town yesterday most of the day and refused to listen to 93.7.

Cut the guy a break. His family has a major medical issue to deal with.
If he leaves, he leaves on good terms. If he stays there is a major hurdle
for him and his family to overcome.

Yep Colony and Dunlap said there is more to this story and it is personal to the Barnes family. I am reading a medical issue in the family since Dunlap is going through the same thing and he implied it was what he is going through. If we have any class at all, we thank him for his service and bid him adieu. I know for some of you t human decency is a reach . But don't worry about how the media will respond . We know how they will respond. Negatively.

Pgh media blows and has far too many brainless fall in line followers....same ole Yinzer duffiness over and over...

If the man has a family medical problem they and their brainless following need to STFU....

I'm not blaming Barnes what-so-ever if the rumors are true.

It's the double standard from the Pgh media that is the issue.

If that was the reason, he would be gone. The rumored claim is a medical problem with his family. A medical problem that would be better treated in Corvalis than Pittsburgh? A medical problem that isn't serious enough for him to actually just leave Pitt and go where he needs to? A medical problem that would require him to leave Pitt's AD position, but still fulfill the needs of the Oregon State AD position?

I don't buy it. Even if there is some medical issue, it sure doesn't seem important enough to drive the decision.

i think the dude wants out.

From a good source, this is true. The nature of the issues is private and should remain private. I'm not some insider, but trust what I've heard, and people should give Barnes space.

Then leave and take care of it. Don't string Pitt along or squeeze OSU for money. Go support your family in Oregon and get that better treatment than you can get through UPMC.

You or I don't know who, or what the issue is. I'm just speculating just like you.

However, each issue is different, and the decisions are different for each family. Your questions are ****ing retarded.

We dont' know what the issue is. Maybe they also want to be closer to family during this time. And you still need a job and ensure you are taking care of your family.

You are pretty f'ing dense IMO.

Look regardless the guy is from the West Coast so if a similar job opens up and his heart is there he should take it. Just like recruits he has to do what's best for him and his family. I don't believe in anyway when he took the job he was looking to jump at the next best opportunity. Sometimes unique opportunities after the fact. I'll personally always be eternally grateful to Scott Barnes for returning the script and getting Pitt fans excited about football again. I wish him the best and I would consider someone with Pitt or at least ties to the area for the next hire so we can hopefully keep the next person longer. I definitely would like to see them hire someone who won't change current script Pitt branding and strategy anytime soon.

Not really. All the reports are that he has been offered Oregon State, but is negotiating. If the issue is so big that he has to leave Pittsburgh then it should be so big that he doesn't need to string Pitt along or stay at Pitt, if Oregon State doesn't give him the package he wants.

Of course the (rumored) issue is unknown, but I'm sorry, I don't buy what medical issue is so important that he has to leave (but not immediately) Pittsburgh for Corvalis, but can still put in the time as an AD and/or that person wouldn't get as good or better treatment in Pittsburgh. His decision is his decision and part of business, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be criticized for doing Pitt wrong.

You guys kill me. You bitch about the media but your yinzer centric attitude is that his family member can only get proper care in Pgh. Grow up . There may be multiple reasons driving the decision to get medical care in the northwest. Really you guys are as bad as nitters.

Me? I never said any of that. I am sure there are multiple reasons he would leave for Oregon State. I just don't have much sympathy for him over a (rumored) medical issue, which isn't serious enough for him to leave over these last few months, allows for him to still be negotiating, and will still allow him to work as an AD. If he was leaving Pitt to take care of his family, irrespective of a new AD position, or taking a much less demanding position elsewhere, my stance would be different.

i believe he is leaving and it will be announced after our bowl game or first of the year.
Agreed. I don't think there is any doubt, at this point, that he will be gone.

I'm sure Pitt knows where he stands and what the circumstances are. They aren't being stringed along.
As long as he is being paid as AD, but isn't fully (and he clearly isn't) doing his job, and plans to leave, Pitt is getting strung along.

In other words you have no idea what the f@ck you are talking about and so your attempt to throw shade on the situation is completely without merit...

Here's some advice.... if you've got nothing nice to say....you know the rest

Get over yourself. This stuff happens everywhere (if the rumors are true). Believe it or not, there is some humanity out there.

True - it could be an ailing parent that he wants to be closer to.

Or his wife...we don't know.
For how fast and out of no where Cancer and other illnesses occur, a lot of people on this thread are being a-holes. When you're sick, you want to go home. Thank him for his time and let him move on. I wish him luck and hope his family can work through whatever has come their way.

I actually agree with @Jpripper88. Barnes nor Pitt has said anything about there being any personal issue around Barnes. If neither of them care to say anything, it is only natural for fans to be asking questions. Barnes could've clarified the situation a week ago, but issued a vague press release that claimed he didn't accept the job. That was a quasi-denial of the story being published all over the place. If you're Joe Sixpack working in an office, that's fine. If you're a P5 AD, that doesn't cut it.

I am not throwing shade. The guy contacted them in September. If it is truly the medical issue that is pushing him there and not him wanting a different job, he/his family should go. I respect that and I feel for them. However, this has been up in the air for 3 months. He has apparently been offered the job and is still negotiating. He is apparently ready to take a job which will still require an unbelievable amount of focus and attention, so if his presence in Corvalis is incredibly important I question him taking another AD position.

Bottomline, if this was something that started in September and is so pressing that it is the reason he would downgrade jobs 18 months after he came to Pitt, then he should probably already be there and probably shouldn't be taking another hugely stressful and time consuming job. I imagine (if there is any actual real medical issue) this is really just a secondary reason to leave Pitt and take a different job, kind of like Penny's 4th cousins in Arizona.

And don't say, "I haven't accepted the job." a week ago and be in negotiations. Either don't comment or be honest about the issues (you don't have to say who or how bad) that are pushing possible changes.

Or his wife...we don't know.

Except it has been 3 months since he apparently contacted them about it. Get there and be there for the loved one, if time is limited. I would understand that 100% and wish him well.

Yep, I agree. Would he still be going if the Oregon State job wasn't open? It almost seems too convenient.

ADs are easily replaced though.
