I'm working on a deep dive into Pitt's second-half offense (the article will run tomorrow) but I thought this was interesting from the Penn State game.

Pitt had 8 possessions in the second half (other than the 2-play drive that ended the game). Four of those eight possessions began inside Pitt's 10. Let's set those aside and look at the other four, which started at the 15, the 25, the 35 and the 16.

On those four drives, Pitt ran 18 plays. 12 of those 18 were pass plays. Of the 6 run plays, 1 was a Kenny Pickett QB run and 4 of the other 5 came on Pitt's final "full" drive, which started with 4:21 left in the game (incidentally, those 4 runs gained 28 yards, but that's kind of moot).

I thought it was interesting that, when Pitt had even semi-favorable field position - or at least wasn't inside the 10 - the offense tried to throw, despite the weather conditions. I'm still working on numbers from the other two games, but that stood out to me from the PSU game.

They were trying to throw the ball. They weren't very successful; Pickett only attempted 8 passes on those 12 pass plays and completed just 3 for 16 yards. But they were trying.
