Self-fulfilling prophecy

We actually finished tied for 8th holding the tiebreaker. We also were one game away from finishing as high as 5th in the deepest conference in the land so all in all I think we surpassed expectations

Gep Dawg, there was a touch of sarcasm in my OP; and as you point out, we were that close to finishing as high as 5th in the ACC. I obviously included Louisville in the standings I used, as the regular season still counted, as far as I was concerned, for W/L. Louisville didn't have to forfeit any games; they just couldn't compete for the ACC Tournament or the NCAA Tournament. The sad reality though is that we did not win those last two games to get us a higher seed in the ACCT, as well as a guaranteed spot in the NCAAT. In that sense, the "tie for 9th (and 10th place)" was what they predicted. For once it would be nice to our Panthers outperform their predicted finish. I know it's happened in the recent past; two years of missing/sweating out the NCAAT's are not what we Pitt fans were hoping for . . .

I wouldn't call it "self-fulfilling" as I assume the Panthers had higher expectations. But I guess they met the expectations of their peers.
