This is assuming we go 8-4. If we dont, things change.

Orange: Clemson

Camping World: NC State

Music City: Pitt
Pinstripe: Syracuse
Belk: Virginia
Sun: Boston College

Pitt finally catches a break in that the teams with the worst traveling fanbases in the ACC will also be in that "Tier 1 Category."

NC State is going to go 9-3 and even at 8-4, they will go to the Orlando bowl based on fan travel. No, they dont travel like Nebraska but they will bring many more than anyone available.

There is no "picking order" between the Tier 1 bowls as the conferences work with the bowls to create the best matchup. I am going to assume the Music City takes an ACC team since they already got ND once and the Gator will want to wait for them.

The tier 1 schools should be:

Pitt: 8-4 (hopefully)
Syracuse: 9-3 or 8-4
BC: 9-3 or 8-4
Duke: 8-4 or 7-5
Virginia: 9-3, 8-4, or 7-5

Possibly GT, Miami, and VT depending on how they finish and how we finish. VT travels and Miami is a brand name so hopefully these teams will not be available because I am sorry but no bowl is taking Pitt over either one.

The way Virginia finishes is key because bowls will like that they haven't been to many recently and they are having a magical season in the eyes of their fans. They brought 30K to Charlotte vs Larry Fitz so they can travel. The Music City may want them. The Belk SURELY will. My guess is those 2 bowls work with the ACC and Virginia. UVa may get to pick their bowl if they go 9-3 or 8-4. However, I think Pitt can sell the Music City on bringing 10K fans (more than BC, Syr) and the ACC may want UVa in Charlotte. They'll bring a lot of fans and they may not want to screw Charlotte by giving them a Yankee team with very little traveling fans. So, Pitt to Nashville.

Pinstripe picks Syracuse. Haven't been there since 2012. Just makes sense. BC is relegated to El Paso. No fans and the bowl doesn't need traveling fans.

Where do we go if we beat Clemson and finish 9-4?

The Peach or Fiesta because the Orange and Cotton are the CFP bowls this year and the Rose and Sugar have tie-ins. Ironically, we would play WVU most likely and Clemson would play UCF

And it wouldn't matter if we are 9-4 or 7-6, as ACC champs, we'd go to a NY6 bowl.

Meh, way too early, way too many unknowns including the Coastal. But thanks for trying to explain it all.

Yea but it gives us some things to root for:

Root for Syracuse to win the last 2 or lose the last 2. If they win the last 2, they go the Peach or Fiesta as a Top 12 team and are out of the ACC selections. At 11-1, ND will also go to a NY6 bowl. If Syracuse loses the last 2, they likely fall below Pitt in the eyes of the bowls (if we are 8-4)

Root against UVa, Miami, and VT. These are teams that could get better bowls than us for various reasons.

The way I see it, we need to be 8-4/8-5 to get a Tier 1 bowl. At 7-5/7-6, its probably Detroit, Annapolis, or Shreveport

I'm sorry but fan travel isn't that important anymore, not like it was. Also - in reality Pitt has traveled respectably well or at least sold it's allotment of tickets, which is all that matters. Your theory is stuck 15 years ago...

These are businesses. Ticket sales are the primary determining factor.

And while Pitt sold a lot of tickets to Annapolis and NYC, we still have not proven we can travel to a southern bowl game especially when there are closer available teams. Like, there is no chance in this world Orlando takes Pitt over NC State but as I said, Pitt has a chance at Nashville. Its not a terrible drive so Pitt can sell them on bringing a decent amount of fans and there may not be many good traveling fanbases available

Pitt sold out their allotment and beyond in both the last two bowl games

That’s a bit better than than some vague “they sold a lot of tickets” statement

If we play in Charlotte the first Saturday of December in the ACC Championship game there is a 0.0% chance that we will play again in Charlotte at the end of December in a bowl game. It is simply not going to happen, and it wouldn't happen if the team involved were us or Virginia or Miami or any other Coastal team.

I'm sorry, but tv revenue provides much more than ticket sales today SMF. When you add that into the recent history of Pitt selling it's allotment of tickets, your theory, while true 1o years ago, just isn't true today I'm sorry.

But there’s no possible way we finish 8-4. None. The most likely scenario is that we finish 8-5...

And the 2nd most likely scenario imo is 7-6.

The last time Pitt played in a southern bowl game that was located in a city people actually want to visit was 2001! Birmingham (3 years in a row), Charlotte (twice) and Fort Worth are places no one wants to go to. Outside of UNC, NC State or VT playing at the Charlotte Bowl those stadiums are about 1/4th full no matter who's playing in them.

Pitt would have a good showing at a post xmas bowl in Florida, which is something the team hasn't had since the Gator Bowl in 1980.
